Gear oil in "53 Farmall cub

Hi - anyone know where the gear oil level plug is on a 1953 Farmall cub? I've seen websites showing a square head bolt on the left side of the case but I don't have one. The fill (behind the stick) and drain at the bottom are obvious but there is nothing else. Can the level be checked from the fill port? Thanks

Which gearbox on a cub there is there steering box, the final drives and the trans they all take gear oil
