A recent post brings back memories of days long gone.

Is there anyone else here that's old enough (or grew up poor enough in my case) that have actually hollered "Gee" ,"Haw" and "Get up" ?

Yep, but it's been awhile. Gee = right, Haw = left, Get up (or giddyup) = Go, and Whoa = stop. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Been there, done that....a pair of Belgian mares, early 1950s. They were sold soon after but I kept in touch since we castrated a lot of young studs for the hobby horsemen up into the 1970s. Before WWII my Dad was the Supt. of the Draft Horse Barn at the Indiana State Fair. He got to know the Annhauser Busch team drivers. I remember about 1953 or so that one of these drivers let me drive the wheel pair of that year's 6 hitch behind a tall 2-wheel cart that they mounted a tongue to instead of shafts. Of course the horses really drove themselves, but, as a 6 yr old, I'll always remember "driving" those Clydesdales....

I had an uncle who plowed his garden with a mule into the early '70s. In his case, the "go" command was more like, "GIDdupp." I tried to plow with his mule, Toby, a few times, but I guess I never had the patience or motivation it took to become good at it. Plus, it just seemed like I had to work a lot harder behind ol' Toby than I did sitting on my Dad's Ferguson TO-20. Of course, my uncle could plow in areas with the mule that my tractor couldn't even get near. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

All I can say is, It's harder than it looks to get the mule to walk on top of the middle so you can bust it out with the middle buster.
