He didn't call me a boob directly. Some worker at a NH Dealership other then the one I bought from. My dealer rounded up a rear remote from another dealer in my area and set it up for me to go there and pick it up. The young man at the counter brought up the parts and I was about ready to pay and leave and that's when I heard "What boob would own a tractor and not a welder". I turned and said, "I own a tractor but not a welder. guess that makes me one of those *****". His reply, "Well now, that's your problem not mine". This guy was wearing a NH shirt like everybody else at this dealers so he had to work there. I told the yound man helping me to forget it and I turned and walked out of the store. As I was driving off a lady came out the front door waving me down to stop. I just kept driving. I won't be doing business there anymore and will just stick with my dealer from now on even if he has to order parts.

I had basicly the same thing happen at the local JD dealer. I haven't set foot in there for five years now.

I have had a bda experience at a Case dealer. They lost my business when I wanted to buy a new tractor. I was dealing with the owner (father). I even sent a letter letting them know I was unhappy and why. His reply was "too bad". The son, who co-owns the business is very nice. Every time I deal with the father, I swear I will never go back. But the son is such a good guy I come back and try to deal with him only.

My dealer called me wanting to know what happened. They called and told him I got upset over a comment made by one of there employees and I walked out without the parts. They wanted my number but he wouldn't give it to them until he talked with me first. I think that was darn nice of him. :) I told him to not give them my number. They told him to PLEASE tell me to stop in and ask for such and such and they would make things right with me. Hmmmmm

Redneck Randy,
If you go back to see them, so they can make things right, they will find out what your price is. Meaning how much it will cost them to be able to call you a boob and get away with it.
Just a thought,

For the right amount of discount, they could call me a bouncy boob if they wanted to. :)

I think they should give Randay a new welder. Then they should
think about their criteria for what makes a customer a boob.

I disagree.

Let's see...

1. Someone came running after him to try and apologize before he left.
2. They called the other dealer to get a name and a phone number
3. When they couldn't get this information they strongly asked that a message be given to Randy.

They know they made a mistake, they are apologizing and want to make it right. What's wrong with that?

P.S.
While odds are the person who made the comment was an employee, this something you need to verify. Why? I have a New Holland shirt and I don't work for a dealer. :)

Hey Redneck, don't be sucha Redneck!!!:)

These people are bending over backwards to make right what was said by obviously a low level employee. You have gotten your pound of flesh, be a gentelman and accept their sincere apology. Some people just say what is on their mind, my parents are like that, we say, "What is on thier mind is on their lips."

There are lots of people with poor social skills, doesn't even make them bad people. Where you or I would think something and not say it, they just blurt out what is on their mind.

The owners of this dealership on the other hand sound like they have excellent social skills, let them do right by you they are maing an effort.

I would go back and speak to the manager/owner. It sounds like they are really trying hard to do the right thing. One employee doesn't speak for the whole company, at least in this instance. The person who made the comment may be an otherwise good employee (or not) but I'll bet someone has spoken to him about what constitutes appropriate behaviour. I can't blame you for being upset but, the dealer is sure not happy about it and wants you to know that.

Poor communication skills = The owner of said business should put a large piece of duct tape over the offending kids mouth so he can't communicate with the paying customers, only to remove it for lunch time......

/ GEEZ New Holland Dealer/Worker called me a boob and Maybe You #12
This sounds like a possible misunderstanding ... not about what you heard but maybe about what was intended by the comments or maybe even the person who made the comments. Couldn't hurt to talk to the owner. Sounds like they want to make it right.

Gosh, I sure know a lot of ***** if having a tractor but no welder makes one a boob. I have two tractors but no welder...I wonder if that makes me a pair?

On behalf of all of us *****, you should ask for a new welder so that you can join the elite class of booblessnessdom. Hate to lose one of our own, but, everyone should have the opportunity to better themselves. :D :D :D

Seriously, agree with others. Someone does not have too bright of an employee - at least one that needs to watch what is said around customers. Good point was made, he may not have been an employee, either way, poor social skills on the part of this guy.

Sounds like the business is really trying to make it up to you. Going above and beyond to call your regular dealer to find you. Sounds like they me be a pretty decent outfit who cares about their customers with the exception of one employee/rogue customer.

Please keep us posted how it goes.

I know more than one boob that COULD NOT own a tractor if they didn't own a welder. They actually break and tear up that much stuff.

I'm with you, Jerry. Having a welder just gives me lots of opportunity to move up higher on the "boob scale.":p

Mike.. My take was that.. yes.. they realize they made a mistake, and -may- be willing to throw the guy a discount.. or a free hat.. or somehting to say -sorry-.. etc. That's my take on the other posters comment about 'his price'.. etc.

As for an employee.. etc. i fthe person was wearing a NH shirt and behind the counter.. then what else could you expect him/her to be?? My NH dealer won't let customers into anything other than the sales floor, or the shop managers office... no behind the counter, and no standing inthe shop.

IMHO.. the original poster probably needs to go back.. get his part.. let them appologize and try to make it right. Chances are they will.. If not.. that's when you write a lteer to corporate... He already has good documentation and possibly support from his local dealer to coroborate at least part of the story.. etc.

I know how the guy feels. I've walked out of stores before after getting a rude comment.... though usually it was for a low$ ticket item. In his case.. if it is a spool pack.. that could be 700$ or so... I know.. I just had to replace one!!

Hopefully the offending dealer will make this good. I know that where i work.. a disparaging comment made to a customer is immediate grounds for termination.. whether the comment was deserved or not... ( I've seen that immediate termination excersied a time or two, as i was called in to finish a project by an ex engineer on at least 2 occasions... )

Though the comment was absolutely not called for. ( and more or less.. inexcuseable.. ). I kinda agree with the concept... if not the delivery method and candor...

If ya own a tractor.. there are a few pre-req's...

#1.. get a manual!!!!! if you own a multi thousand dollar hunk of iron.. ya need the 30$ manual that goes with it. If the manual costs more than a hundred bucks.. chances are your machine is green... still need the manual though..

#2 big hammer

#3 big prybar

#4 some source of heat... either propane or O/A

#5 a welder. O/A bottles from #4 can apply if you know how to gas weld.

#6 a set of 'big' tools.. be it wrenches or socket sets.. at least 1/2" if
not 3/4" drive..e tc.

#7 penetrating oil and bailing wire

There are others.. but those are some of the real important ones!!

Randy never said the person who made the comment was behind the counter. See quote from Randy's post below.

"The young man at the counter brought up the parts and I was about ready to pay and leave and that's when I heard "What boob would own a tractor and not a welder". I turned and said,...

Personally they want to make it right? I would tell my dealer, htat the best form of apology would be their stepping up and taking care of it. By taht in my book I would expect them to deliver (via UPS/FED/ex courier/whatever) to my local and friendly New Holland Dealer. From whom I can acquire the part. If they wish to include any sort of apologies fine it will be taken in consideration.

Obviously they do this at their cost....

just my two cents...

The customer is always right.
Being disrespectful to a customer is becoming a norm. People that tolerate it only allow it to continue. I think Randy did the right thing. His dealer in my opinion was even more correct. If the offending dealer wants to make right he would leave his number for Randy to call him back or just take care of it with Randy's primary dealer.

Yeah, I expect allot from sales people. People getting paid commission to sell me something and provide a service. I expect there to be service with that.

I buy materials all day. That is what I do for a living. I have short patience for stores/dealers/vendors that think they are doing me a favor. (Edit, meaning that they are going out of their way just taking my call, and well selling to me is my privilege. Whatever). Real salespeople that respect and service the customer are rare. And oh do they get a fair share of my business.

I have a pretty good guess as to which dealer Randy experienced. If I'm right, their attitude is why I own a Deere and why Randy purchased from a different NH dealer.
