Thats funny..I seen an insurance adjuster the other day that had a radar detector on the dash in the van he drove. )</font>

Many if not most insurers will not insure you if you have a radar detector

We also have been able to save another $150 a year because we dropped AAA in favor of Geico roadside which is only a few dollars add-on to the basic policy. )</font>

I had GEICO roadside service for several years untill I discovered it cost me more to use the service than it would cost me to pay the tow bill,so I dropped the roadside service.
Couldn't see paying the premium for the service and paying the tow truck both.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( Farm Family" I have an estate policy and
1* 2 of my vehicles are listed as business vehicles and the rates are great,
2*but the one car is not listed as a business vehicle and it cost's twice as much to insure as the others and it is the oldest vehicle of the 3. )</font>
-------
1*I find this very strange as Business use has one of the highest premium rates.
2*Then change the usage of this car to business and get the lower rate.

Here are a few things that greatly affect insurance premiums
and can cause huge variations in insurance Quotes.

1* Miles driven
2*Vehicle usage
3*Principal Driver
4*Percent of use.

Put the wrong answer on the application for any one of these and you will get a higher quote.
Do it for all 4 and the premium really goes up.

They won't let me have the 1 on the business policy because of my son driving it.

=============
This is odd Vehicle usage is not detremined by the driver.

You should be able to get your son covered on any vehicle regardless of how the vehicle is used .

The only thing your son should have any affect on is the driver information .
He has nothing to do with how the vehicle is used.

This auto insurance company is the strangest one I have ever seen.

In spite of the never ending obnoxious TV commercials, not to mention billboards and junk mail, I finally decided to check on GEICO insurance premiums, and for the same coverage, they were only $19.20 a year MORE than my current AAA insurance. Of course I have annual coverage vs. Geico's 6 month policy. And that was after telling me about the great $200 plus "discounts" for antilock brakes, passive restraints, security systems, defensive driving course, no tickets, no accidents, no claims. So I guess I'll stay with AAA. Of course I don't know how AAA would be on handling a claim since I haven't had any. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have had Geico for a while now and when I switched they saved me over no lie $1600 on my truck insurance and that was with getting the best coverage possible except I decided to take a $1000 deductable. I have also just recently switched to them for my house insurance and saved $200 for a better policy. Don't know what will happen if I make a claim but then again not sure what would have happened with my old insurance company either.

Yeah, it can be a bit difficult to compare policies and premiums. Geico was just a little more on the auto policy than AAA, but I'm also getting a discount with AAA on the auto insurance because I also have my homeowner's insurance with them. If I got Geico homeowner's, maybe it would be cheaper. I know the AAA homeowner's policy cost just over $800 a year while Farmers priced it at over $1,100 a year.

There's a lot of direct experience in these responses and that's probably the best testimony--good or bad.

I think each state is required to rate insurance providers in their state. Check your state's official website and navigate to the Insurance Commission, or some such thing. In NY, each company has been rated both on premium cost and on customer satisfaction. Both are important, since a cheap rate is of little value if you have to fight the company tooth and nail when you make a claim or if they raise your rates after having made a claim.

Good luck!
