<font color=blue>Is that your pond </font color=blue>

Yep. Photogenic sucker, ain't it? /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

<font color=blue>one lucky little vegemite</font color=blue>

From people I've talked to who have sampled that stuff, I'd like to think I have better taste than that.

That's cool Harv. I recall seeing a photo of your pond taken from the house (misty ??). I didn't realise you were ON the pond !!

Does the water level rise and fall much?

Hey post some more pics in photos. - That looks like a great place. Did you build it?

"Lucky little vegemite:. Well actually the saying here is "Happy Little Vegemite" but I thought it sounded good.

So you know of vegemite then? !!!

Cheers

I met a deckhand from Australia while marlin fishing in Hawaii. He'd have his vegemite on toast while leaving the marina every morning. Meanwhile, me and my other landlubber friends are just trying to get over a little "hair of the dog" we had had earlier that morning. Maybe if I were in better shape I would have sampled some, but as it was I couldn't even look in his direction.

Yeah, Neil, too darn much, unfortunately. Right now, being summer and all, it's down to about half full, and sometimes it dang near dries up (see attachment). It's fed by runoff from mountain snowmelt, so it all depends on what kind of winter we had.

<font color=blue>Did you build it?</font color=blue>

Not me. This was my parents' retirement property, and my dad did all the building. He contracted some and built some himself. The pond was already there when they bought the place, but one of those years when it completely dried up, he hired a bulldozer to come in and enlarge it some, build up the dam a bit, etc. He also had the bright idea of using the spoils to create the island in the middle.

<font color=blue>So you know of vegemite then?</font color=blue>

Actually had the opportunity to try some, but when I saw the reaction of others ahead of me, I decided to pass. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif Guess it's an acquired taste. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

My wife asked me where I ate lunch the other day. I told her. She gave me the "you're weird" speech too, /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

"I met a man from Brussels. He was 6'4" and full of muscles. I asked did he speak my language. He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich."
-- From the song "I come from a land down under."

I heard that on a lunchtime flashback 80's radio show today and it reminded me of this thread. That is as close as I've came to vegemite though I guess.

Is that the same thing the "Brits" call Marmite? We had some guests from London, England stay at our B&B last year and they brough their own industrial sized supply of Marmite. One evening they "treated" /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif us to this wonderful stuff and, I think, were a tad surprised /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif when we didn't ask for more.

Now they have moved to Canada and are about 40 minutes away (so I guess we didn't scare them too badly) and whenever they have friends visiting from "ova 'ome" they ask for a new supply of this stuff.

Taste is realtive and these folks are not./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
