Or won't work at all.. or will burn up the cutout...

To all.. remember.. you polarize not only to set up residual magnetism inthe field.. but also to set polarity.. and also for the cutout.

/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Um.. that holds tru with an A-type circuit system, where the field is internall hot and the vr is providing field ground via a vibrating contact / bias resistor... Not so great if you have a B circuit system with an internally grounded field, and it is expecting field power from the vr. In fact.. if you ground the field tab of a B circuit genny, while it's regulator is hooke dup.. you will probably toast the regulator, as you are shorting its field source.. weld the points and all.

Chack that info you research before handing it out... all gennies are not the same circuit type. If you have a correct vr for your genny, but are unsure of circuit type, a quick and dirty way to tell between a and b circuit is to flip the regulator over and look fro the bias resistor. A circuit will have a bias resistor between field and ground.. B will have one between armature and field.. may also have another bias resistor present as well..
