I have a standby diesel generator that leaks oil since day 1.

The issue is, I have looked EVERYWHERE for the leak and cannot find it.

Here's where it gets even more confusing : the engine oil is dark (like normal used oil), while what I find on the floor is a lot lighter. I.e. like new synthetic. The engine oil level does not decrease either.

There isn't a diesel leak anywhere either.

Do you guys have any tips on locating a leak? Is there some sort of dye that could be added to the oil ? Kind of like the ones used for a radiator or ac system..

The generator is a sealed /quiet type therefore access is limited unfortunately.

What make and model is the generator? What engine? What country was it manufactured in? Do you have a link to an online exploded parts manual? A shop manual? My first thought would be a leaking gearbox seal, but without more info I couldn't even say that it has a gearbox. If the engine is low RPM, it probably has one. What does your owner's manual say?

The owners manual is of no help, it's a generic diesel Chinese generator called a gt power gt6000w.

Leak is somewhere near the bottom of the generator.

Is this dye visible in dark engine oil with a good UV flashlight?

Do I have to do an oil flush/change after or can the dye stay inside the oil for say a week or two if the leak isn't apparent at first?

Thank you for the help.
