Problem is, if you have a 26 yr old box I wonder if they do indeed make one that will work. I have an old skinny 200a Westinghouse panel and instead of the main breaker being at the top of the panel(like I'm use to seeing), it's the first dual-set of breakers on the left buss-bar. Or at least that's what it looks like without the cover off. Sure would hate to have to replace my entire panel just to accommodate one of these, but they seem to be the economical solution, along with a simple small sub-panel, or receptacle box. I've got to select a solution and quickly before the next outage.
Yesterday, my kids and I were home due to storm PAX and at 3:25 we heard an explosion and our power died. I immediately called the utility co. and reported it(luckily I was able to get to a live person). Long story short... a snow plow up and around on another culdesac plowed right into a transfomer and boom! Not sure what happened to the driver if anything (hopefully not). So while it wasn't a downed power line due to the freezing rain, it was still weather related. I feel like I dodged a bullet this time. Hence the interest in this topic now. Power was restored about 3 hours later.
