Generic question about 4wd tractors...

I tried out both a JD 2210 and a JD 4010 at the JD dealer before eventually buying a 4010. I could not get that 2210 to go into 4wd, and its shifter for it is the same as the one for the 4010. Tried it 3 times, went over to a hill, and it wouldn't back up the hill because the front tires weren't turning. The rears just spun.

My JD 4010 manual says you only need to shift to 2wd when running down a hard surface road. Since I don't do this, I leave it in 4wd, even when running a short distance on my driveway. I get 4 wheel braking with it in 4wd.

Check your tire pressures. Make sure the tires are the proper size and that they inflated to manufactures (or the tires) correct amount. Your drive train is designed for a specific ratio of tire, so if under/ over inflated it will bind your transfer case MORE THAN NORMAL and cause torque or prevent the shifting from four wheel drive to rear wheel drive. Some times under normal use your case may bind making it hard to remove it from four wheel drive. I would only use four wheel drive when needed. You minimize tire and drive train wear and surface wear or damage. (grass, mulch, stone pavement etc.) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I hope this helps.
