My 5 K genie has not been gettin' my power tool saws up to operating rpm . I metered it and found it is outputting 112 V. Seems like this is a bit low especially if a long cord is used further reducing output. It was suggested to me to try to adjust engine speed. I know genies have a governor of some type. Three questions : 1 ) will increased engine speed increase voltage output ? 2) is it possible to adjust engine speed via carb settings ? 3 ) or do I need to do it via governor somehow ?

We need more info on the generator, cord length and wire size.

In general;
1 - No, it will affect frequency.
2 & 3 - Speed is controlled by the governor.

I may have unintentionally deceived when I mentioned cord. I actually tested genie at the outlets for cord. I just knew that cord length and wire size would add an additional drop in voltage.

I also failed to mention ( senior moment ) that I recently had a new carb installed and I question whether or not the service guys set the governor correctly afterward. If all that is correct then I guess the problem lies in the power unit itself. Hard around here to find a shop that does both engine work and power unit work.

Thoughts ?

If all the shop did was install a replacement carb, messing around with the governor shouldn't have even been necessary.....unless of course they don't know how to remove and install a carb correctly. It's very possible that during the process, they chose to bend some linkages to get them unhooked and reattached, rather than taking steps to remove them from their attachment points properly.

And if they tell you that they "do" engines but they "don't do" whatever the engine is attached to....it's time to look for a new repair facility.

;)
