bobcat ct225
So I settled on a ct225, going to pick it up later this week. My question is, What are some ways to get a little more power out of the machine? an extra pony or two on this machine would go a long way. Any suggestions?

try and not multi-task with the steering, hydro-drive, and loader work

I have a friend who reminds me that every time I reinforce a part, all I am doing is moving the weakest link to a more expensive part. Getting more power out of the same engine does the same thing. Expect more, pay more. The last time I checked, tractor parts were more expensive than tractors, just payments were spread out differently.

being on a budget...not fun. Wish I could spend the extra$$$ for the 230. (actually Im getting a deal too good to turn down on a 25 horse version of the 225. ( I know..I know..)this tractor will be more for my wifes horse barn work than for my digging and plowing so im hoping that for the most part it will be capable of doing its job. I'm not familiar with the hydro trany and was curious if there was any way to make adjustments that might help get more of the power to the ground???

For around the barn the 225 is a good tractor, power wise. I have my rops at permanent 1/2 mast to clear the barn opening. It has enough power to run a 6' bushhog if your land is flat. I was wanting a smaller frame tractor like a kubota 2920 but it was $6000 more. I dont think you'll be disapointed in the power, where the bobcat falls down is in the finish quality.(paint) For the price and features it cant be beat. The adjustable rear linkage lets my wife hook up the mower and disker without my help and the hydro and cruise makes mowing almost enjoyable.

Like unclesalty, I was intially interested in a B series Kubota (I was looking at the B2620 as it had the same loader capacity at the B2920), but my CT225 is a much larger tractor, and it also has more loader capacity. And the fact that between the rebate and free loader that the price was thousands less, I could not turn that down.

You may have noticed my rants in other threads about the fact that I ended up with the 25hp version then the new 27hp one. My dealer took my tractor back and made some adjustments to the hydro linkage in order to gain more "power" to the hydraulics. What was happening was that I could not lift the front of the tractor off the ground unless I was in neutral. I can now do that.

High range on the hydro is useless unless you are traveling down a flat road. I use mid-range for driving around the yard and low range for loader work. I have hills on my property, and the tractor will come to a stop going up them unless I am in 4wd and low range.

For what I paid, I am happy with my tractor - it has helped me out now for about 30 hours. My beef with Bobcat is that I went in thinking that I was getting a 27hp tractor and ended up with a 25hp leftover from last year. There are others on here who talk about their tractor stalling out in trying to do any work. My tractor will spin the tires going into a pile and not stall, so I consider myself fortunate that I must have a stronger tractor than them hydraulically.

It sounds like you will be more than okay with your usage.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me and made suggestions on the ct225. I decided to go ahead and take the 25 horse machine. I am going to pick it up in the morning. I did ask the dealer to check the pressure relief valve and adjust it if needed to give me the maximum pressure that is allowed under warranty. hopefully this will help me get the most out of my machine. I've had a bittersweet experience with my dealership sorting out this 25/27 horse delima. Ill post a new thread this weekend with feedback on my dealership and pics. Thanks again to all you TBN guys!
