Next to my shop is this big oak stump. I use it to dispose of dirty gasoline. I mean gasoline I use for cleaning bearings and such. I drilled 1 inch holes in the stump, pour the gas in and set it on fire.

It is slowly burning the stump away - but thats the second purpose of it.

Well my Uncle Dave has kind of been doing that for years. Although he only uses that on some small kindling pieces in a bucket, using deisel fuel on the bottom, no fear of fumes in the basement. Those kindling pieces take right off and he swears by it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I mix a little diesel with my old oil & use about one cup on a little kindling to start my wood stoves. Just don't use it unless the ashes are cold. If it starts smoking before you light it the smoke is explosive.

I like your idea for starting an outdoor fire. I always have a pile of branches, and larger material piled at the burn pit just begging for a good fire. I'll just give that method a try real soon.
