Re: getting a mf 4345 and looking for some feedbac

Looking through my service manual which is for 4200 - 4300 tractors, the power shuttle uses a wet clutch with clutches and steels similar to automotive automatic transmissions on a obviously heavier scale. There is no dry clutch used with this transmission type.

I am dissapointed to hear of this problem and am hopeful that it has already been addressed by Massey Ferguson. Did the post on the other forum go into any specifics or say anything about what the cause of the problem is?

A power shuttle is a hydraulic clutch. The clutch plates run in hydraulic fluid. The only thing that you may (I stress MAY) bypass by using the pedal is the activation solenoids. I know that I really like my power shuttle for loader work, just flip the handle and change direction.

Re: getting a mf 4345 and looking for some feedbac

I am not familiar with the fisical working of this transmission. I was first asked by someone in England(Not MF) if we were experiencing trouble with these transmissions. Europe had them for several years before the US. I had heard of none. Since then I have had direct experience with two. Something to do with some sort of reverse thrust that the hydraulic clutch created and caused bearing failure in the transmission, and these tractor were not being used with loaders.

Re: getting a mf 4345 and looking for some feedbac

Got the tractor and all is well. The clutch on this thing is touchy,it was hard to get used to.I find myself using the clutch instead of the power shuttle /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif quite often. My problem is the shifter is just like my case 580L and I'll forget to clutch or pop into neutral when stopping because i'm on my 580 more. Was subsoiling this weekend with a john deere ripper and it had no problem pulling it 24" deep in wet conditions.Cant wait this spring to try a 4 bottom to see how she does. One thing I did hear about this tractor is that it is identical to a 4355 and that the pump is only turned down.If this turns out to be true you can beleive when the waranty is out the pump will be tweeked a little. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifBut untill I see a parts take off on the injectors, turbo and such I very doubtfull.

Re: getting a mf 4345 and looking for some feedbac

Little update on tractor..it's in the shop. It's blinking a code that says the engine speed sensor is faulty but the hydralic oil pressure light is on also.Anyways the dealer said to run it so I could finish what I was doing,he felt nothing would come of it and he would stand behind it if it did.Well now its 50 mile away because he said massey wants him to run "tests". /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifCalled today to see what was going on and he said he ran it for 40 min with no prob.Had to reorder part because the part he orderd came in wrong.Didnt ask how he ran it for 40 min because your not supposed to idle or run high rpms with no load for the first 50 hr's.Sorry about the rant,I'm just not happy with the situation.

Re: getting a mf 4345 and looking for some feedbac

hey there plumboy. see way your talking about a 4345 and a 4355 being the same bar the injector pump being tweaked its very simple to leave your tractor the same hp as the 4355 it only requires 3 turns on a 5mm hexagon headed screw in the back of the injector pump. your dealer if reason will able should even do this for you while the machine is in the warranty period

Re: getting a mf 4345 and looking for some feedbac

Thanks DEE.My dealer said we need to leave it alone til the warrantys out and then they will be happy to do it for me.I still cant beleive a company will build a tractor then "detune" it and nock off $2500.
Well its coming back tomorrow. They replaced the engine speed sensor and changed the hydralic fluid and cleaned the screens. They even ate the haul charge(50 miles away). So all is well. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.....until next time.

Re: getting a mf 4345 and looking for some feedbac

Hello, Dee. I have a 1986 283 MF with 67 pto hp. It has the same engine as the 383 which has more horsepower. Where is the adjustment screw on the pump to increase power? Is it the one with the wire through it that requires removing? What is the maximum adjustment for more power? Thanks for the information.
