Getting close to 50 hour service....questions.

Greetings:

My L3130 is getting close to it's 1st service. When draining the HST and the front end, how much will come out? Usually in these situations there is always some residual which falls short of the capacities listed in the manual. I'm trying to figure how much SUDT I'm actually going to need.
Also, is the hydro screen difficult to remove and clean? Thanks.

I have no experience with HST trannys, but I'd just buy the recommended capacity of SUDT. When I did the 50 hr service on my manual tranny L4400 I let it drain for a long time and it took most of the stated fluid capacity when I refilled. SUDT is priced like liquid gold but it does not hurt to have a little extra left over just in case.

I agree. I always keep a couple of gallons handy to top it off if needed. Especially when I spill a couple of quarts when installing the hydraulics for my grapple! You're probably going to need to top it off for one reason or another in the next couple hundred hours. Nothing's more frustrating than trying to do some tractor work on a Saturday evening, checking the hydraulic oil, and realizing that it is low, knowing that no Kubota dealer is open 'til Monday. Been there, done that.

5 gal bucket of SUDT was right at $90 in N GA a few weeks ago.

Boy, that is some liquid gold. At $18 a gallon it's more expensive than my oil. At one point in time SUDT was a little cheaper than TRC's oil. I guess Ashlands (who makes Kubota's lubes) cost to Kubota has gone up.

I went by what the manual stated for capcities when I did the 50 hr service on my 3130/HST. I made sure all of the hydraulic cylinders were retracted. (don't know if that makes any difference. seemed like the right thing to do??).
I was able to get most all of the fluids out. Be sure to take the filler cap off to vent the system. Before you start make sure you have all the proper wrenches, five gallon pails etc. I had a problem with one plug under the tractor. It was a nonexistant metric size. I borrowed everything my local mechanic had and could not find the right size. I think I had to use a pipe wrench I read all the previous posts on this subject and it was very helpfull. Good Luck

Forgive my grapple ignorance but where does a couple of quarts fall out of? That seems like a lot of oil to me!!!

90$?? US??? Now that's scary, can't imagine what the stuff costs up here!!!

Is it a 4 sided square female drain plug? I have set's of SAE and Metric drain plug sockets made by Snap On and I'm sure one of them would probably fit. If you get a measurement I can probably get you a Snap On tools part number for the socket that would fit it.

Well, that's an exaggeration by all means. I probably spilled 100cc when changing the hose connectors. There was already oil in the hydraulic hoses going to the grapple cylinders and I had to change the connectors. When I screwed them off the oil in there just trickled out. Now that I have the correct connectors on there there is no more spillage. It was only when getting it set up. In MY tractor there is over 60 quarts in the transmission!! By the way, my dealer does the 50 hour service without charge. No charge for pickup & delivery, labor, or fluids. And you'd better believe I'm going to take advantage of THAT in about 20 hours!
