SUDT is cheaper here in Western NY. It's a mere $88.00 for five gallons but add on the 8.75 sales tax probablty the highest in the nation and its in the ballpark of where you pay 92 dollars a gallon with lower Sales tax.

$88 that's still $17.60 per gallon and you have to go pick it up at that. TRC's UTF oils run between $16.60 to $15.60 depending on the size pail or drum. I would be interested to know how much Kubota buys UDT and SUDT from Ashland for and what their markup is.

Your state tax is not the highest. The last tax sheet I have shows Oklahoma is 10.5%, California is the same as you at 8.75%, Arkansas is 10%, Tennessee is 9.75%. What really sucks is some states also have county sales taxes and on top of that some even have additional tax's just for oil products. The tax man want's his money that's for sure.

Taiser,
It feels good to vent. Our wives don't really listen or care much when we complain so here is where we share our feelings.

Diesel,

Too much government and not enough paying customers in NY. A lot of free money out there but I don't get any. That's another discussion though. Whew.... That felt good!:)

I did my 50 hour last year on a 3130 HST.. replaced all the filters.. I do have a BH and Loader.. not sure how that affects total capacity. I bought three 5 gallon bucks of Super UDT and did get into the third bucket but had most of it (the third bucket) left over.

PS.. the fluid that comes out.. looks like new. You wonder what you're changing it for.. but you know hydraulics.. it's the stuff that you can't see. Instead of recycling the stuff I gave it to a buddy who has an old dump truck with leaky hydraulics. He didn't seem to care what brand or variety it was.

I baby my tractor.. but my brother.. who sells big stuff.. says most of his contractor types never change oil.. just filters... and add to it when it needs it.

not that I would give that advice.

That's very true in that break-in period. There are many microscopic pieces of metal and what-not left over from the manufacturing process. So it's not so much the break down of the oil but the other stuff in there from what I understand. I have a small MTD lawn tractor and they recommended the first engine oil change at 10 hours!

With the size of some tractor hydraulic sump's it's all the more reason to use UOA's to test the oil. If there is no contamination and the oil is still fine there is no need to change it.

Yeah and it's not just the sales tax!! Combined provincial (8%) and federal (6%) taxes are 14% (after our conservative government just dropped it 1% with a promise to drop it another 1% soon-thank GOD). That's on ANYTHING you buy, or any work you get done (also known as the dreaded "Goods and Services" tax (GST))!! For example, get an oil change...add 14%, buy a piece of lumber...add 14%! Only exemption is food, and basic food at that. Cup of coffee...add 14%. :(

Income tax is also out of this world!! I pay about 42% of my income to the tax man right now.

With all the taxes we pay a think tank came up with a "tax freedom day" date. Maybe you have one in the states? If you do it would be interesting to know what it is.

It's basically a calculated day of the year where after working you finally get to keep the money you make. It's June 7! So theoretically ALL my income goes to the government until June 7, after June 7 I get to keep it. That date has been creeping up a few days almost every other year or so.

johnk...how's that for a vent!! :D Hey it does feel better!!!

Sorry for the thread hijack, we now return to regularly scheduled thread...:D
