Getting my yard back

Don't forget the soil test you may need lime etc. Fall is best as the winter frost will help work it into the soil. Doesn't hurt to apply it with the seed.

Ahhh, the soil test. I meant to ask, as I've seen it written on this forum enough times, what is an "extension"? Obviously some kind of ag office, but what is its formal name so I can look it up in the phone book, assuming there is one in my area.
Is it named after the county you live in, the township, is it a fed gov't office?

Thanks

Thanks for the link!
The office closest to me is located in the city in an assisted living home. They will sell you the kit to "do it yourself", I was told. Problem is you don't actually do the testing yourself, you have to send it away to Penn State, in my case. Then it takes 10 working days to get the results back.
The seed will be on the ground by that time and if anything needs applied I would have to drive over the hopefully germinating seeds it to apply it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'm going to gamble. I've seeded small areas before and the grass took. I just spread fertilizer as a helper, just in case. If it fails I will have no one to blame but myself, but when I have more time I may still try to get a soil sample in to Penn State just to see.... The results may tell me what to next year.

Thanks again for the link to my extension.
