Hi everyone.

New here and my first post.

Foregone conclusion that in a couple of years or later, my family and I are going to move up to Alaska, Delta Junction area. And farm... Yes we are crazy lol.

In the meantime I have time to research and target our crops etc.

One interesting thing about the Delta Junction area. Not much for implement dealers and it's2 hours to Fairbanks.
So I'm interested in tractor brands that are easy to work on but more importantly....easy to get parts outside of the dealer network. Is that even possible?

Like the simplicity of the Yanmar. Naturally aspirated and the transmission can be removed without splitting the tractor...correct? In 2 or more years, their current ones will be used and soon out of warranty.

Thank you very much for any advice you may have.
Including telling me to see a therapist:laughing:

I think you can get parts for just about all of the big players online. Deere, New Holland, Kubota, etc. Most are from dealers of that specific brand.....but the dealers ship.

Thanks!
What I figured about getting parts.
Just seeing if someone had some insight or experience getting parts other than through their local dealer and if there is a brand that makes it easier to do.
I read elsewhere, on another thread, that the parts still usually go through the local dealer....if ordered from, lets say John Deere.

Large independent companies like Messicks.com have parts for a number of brands.

Where I see potential owners of a new tractor run into trouble is failing to check forum support available for the brand you choose and also the availability of free manuals.

I will use Kioti as an example. They have many loyal owners. When someone like me who tries to help owners of many brands with their problems Kioti has the "go to your dealer," philosophy.

Below is an example of a recent exchange with Kioti customer service.
I asked Kioti headquarters after the owner got not help from his dealer.

Good Morning, David,

Thank you for contacting KIOTI! We no longer make the LK5054 model. For the information you requested below, please contact your local KIOTI dealer. You can locate a nearby dealer here: Find a KIOTI Dealer | Kioti Tractors.

Thank you,

I replied in the same way I am giving you advice about buying a Kioti.

Please re read the form I filled out.

It is NOT my tractor but belongs to one of Kioti痴 customers who is unable to get the information he wants from his dealer..

Because the owner was not getting the information he needed from his dealer, he turned to a tractor forum where more educated and experienced people like me try and help.

Often I am asked Kioti or Kubota when someone is trying to decide which tractor to buy.

My advice to them before making such a decision is to go on line and see what technical material is available for future needs with their new tractor.

Your response just magnifies my further comment that the only thing available when Kioti is concerned is 敵o to your dealer.

I ask a simple question? to much bother to answer.

I hope someday your company will realize that their reputation is hurt not helped by that phrase, 敵o to your dealer.

David

John Deere has the best Workshop manuals I have seen. If you buy a JD, insist on being given the WSM and owner's manual in electronic form on a thumb drive as part of your deal.

Kubota has a strong following and the Orange forum where all discussions involve Kubota's. I have a M7040 Kubota I bought new.

I find many who venture into the world of Chinese tractors are lured by the low price. I recently helped an owner of a new tractor living in France near the Belgian border. When he order his tractor he had no idea what live power takeoff was nor rear hydraulic remote outlets so did not order either.

The manual which came with his tractor was far out of date to what the was supplied and further, the company he bought it from was sticking their brand label on another brand's tractor and then went out of business..

To shorten the story, we exchanged over 100 detailed emails to get him rear hydraulic remotes. All labels on priority valves and pumps are in Chinese. Fortunately I have a friend whose wife is Chinese so she was a big help. When the manual does not match the tractor you have a severe problem.

I don't think you can go wrong with John Deere or Kubota. The quality of the dealer and the length of time the dealer has been in business are important factors to consider.

Having the dealer sent their tech to your place for service and you, at the beginning of the service, give the tech say $20 with the request that he or she teach you about your tractor is a wise investment regardless of your level of knowledge.

Make sure the brand you choose has a complete parts catalog online. I would also research dealers that are willing to ship to your area.

For older tractors I often look up the part number and search ebay. Occasionally I find a NOS deal for what I need.

Thank you Dave and very good info.
You too JD855guy

My issue is that the nearest dealer or mechanic to the Delta Junction area is about 2 hours away.
And from what I can tell from other post here, at least the JD dealer is not very customer oriented.

But very good point on making sure i have a quality work shop manual.
I need to consider that while i can to do most things for repairing a tractor, there are some things best left to an experienced mechanic. Even if they ARE 2 hours away.
Fairbanks has a JD, Kubota, and New Holland & Case IH dealer.
Thanks guys!

Looking at the 40 - 60 hp range.
Back hoeing, clearing land, discing, planting etc.
200 acres or more.
Getting into the egg and meat bird business as well and raise my own feed.

Biggest concern would be PTO hp for some of the equipment and lifting power as well.

Still researching what I will need yet. Just starting this process

Depending on how much clearing (cleaning fence row's vs. converting woods) you might want to start with some used "heavy" equipment. Big time land clearing is hard on an ag tractor and no where as efficient. :2cents:

do you have a favorable dealer you work with now?? I moved 4.5 hours away from the NH/Bobcat dealer I LOVE.. I call them up for the most part the parts/service guy can get me what I need to know or they put a mechanic on the call then order the parts I need and have them drop shipped directly to me and just invoice once I get the parts.. can't say enough about service and I'm not a guy that trades up every couple years but I get the same support as the guys shopping every year or two.. if you find a dealer that appreciates your business you don't have to be 10 miles away... unless of course you own a Toolcat that if it dies you have to drag it on a trailer as it won't freewheel.. :-(
