It depends on what you are doing with the tractor. If you are using ground engaging equipment put them facing forward to help pulling going forward. If you start having traction problems raise the implement and drive through the bad area. If you are doing loader work I could see where reversing them would help.

You've had the tractor for a year, what is the intended reason for putting the duals on now? Are you going to start doing some other type of work that you have not been doing? Just want to know what it is that you're doing that will require the duals. :confused3: You drive the tractor on the road, don't you? That ought to be fun with the duals.

Just curious

First, you need to decide if you bought the tractor to work efficiently...or look cool. Although a tractor can be both...you need to determine which has higher priority.
The only thing I've ever read was to reverse the front tires (on a MFWD machine, of course) to assist in backing out.

Hmmm..... Good point Roy.

I used to have unlimited use of my neighbors 580 backhoe up until 7 years ago when he passed away. I used it for whatever maintaince I needed.

After 6 years of no maintainence, my roads have gone to pot as well as other maintainence which I have no longer been able to get done. Since I was never able to find a backhoe which I could afford, a freind suggested a tractor and that was the route I ended up going. With nearly a mile of gravel drives to maintain, the tractor is definately here to work so that has to be top priority.

You've given my good food for thought. Thank you.

You're right about me having used it on the road, but only one of those times was other than to mow the front drainage ditch. In October I ended up selling the boom mower to cover the $4K I needed for paying property taxes. If I make 3 trips a year on the road now, I will be suprised.

As for the intended use for the duels, I have a couple of areas which are pretty soft in the winter that I drive through with hay for the cows. For some reason, this winter, the ground seems to be wetter than it's been in the past. Probably from driving through there last winter combined with the wet summer we had. Since the duels came with the tractor, I figured I'd give them a try and see if they help any. If money allows, next summer I'll dig out and rock those areas. In the mean time, it's try to take advantage of what I have.

Then, of course, there's always the cool factor that Roy mentioned. I'm the type of person that has to actually put them on just to see how they look and work. If it doesn't give me any advantage, they'll come back off. Either way, I'll have the ability to use them if needed and I'll know the pros and cons of working with them on the tractor. I don't think I would have ever spent the money to buy them, but since they came with the tractor and I already have them.....

Soft ground + duals = not getting stuck. Since LGP is the objective, I would run the outside tires in the reverse direction, juuuuuuuust in case.;)

It may have already been mentioned, but while the duals work great, they do tend to tear the ground up when turning more so than running singles. I have seen times though that I really would have loved to have a set of duals on.

I got the bolts for the duels today. I'll mount them up this weekend and report back. For now, I'm going to put them on facing forward.

Someone asked me what the width of the tractor is with the duels on (might have been in a different thread). As best as I can tell, it should end up 9' 10" wide. I have a 10foot door to the shop. This is going to get tight.

now you need a 10 foot bush hog or flail mower and some steep hills to mow.
