I have a lot of buckthorn, an invasice species, that I need to cut down. Some of the bushes are fairly large and on a hill behind our house that I can't take the tractor on to bush hog so it'll be the chainsaw. I don't want them to come back, they are blocking the view to a lilac tree that is growing wild up there. My wife's favorite flower. Has anyone tried a spray to kill stumps from regrowing? If so what was it? Did it work good? Where did you buy it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks
Greg

Round up will work at 50% concentration and so will bush-b-gon I think at the same concentration. The directions for each will say how to apply. It needs to be applied to the stump very shortly after the cut is made. 10 minutes to two hours or so. There are also some specific products made for stump treatment but I am not familiar with those.

Mornin Greg,
I will second Steves' suggestion of Round-Up. My wife loves the lilacs also /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How did you make out with the maple syrup this year ?

Remedy and Garlon are good "cut-stump" herbicides and can be mixed with vegetable oil for treatment.

Here is a link for more specific product and application methods - www.dowagro.com/ca/prod/remedy

Remedy can also be used for foliar application on smaller plants

We have used straight Round up concentrate applied with a paint brush on newly cut stumps successfully.
