.gif files converting to .jpg files

Sorry - I don't mean to upset anybody. I have two excellent software programs that allow me to modify photos. One - Movavi Photo Editor 5 - is particularly good at changing format.

That's ... not my issue? And nobody's upset.

Well - the reasons your gif files are being converted to jpeg, could be - - jpeg has superior color, it's higher quality and its a smaller file size. Many web sites will only accept files of certain types. gif files are around 2.5 times larger than jpeg - gif supports 256 colors, jpeg supports 16 million colors.

I often use PNG for all my static pictures.

If an animated gif gets converted to a jpeg, then it loses the animation. That's what I interpreted the problem to be.

That’s what’s happening. I don’t know if it’s the app or IOS 13.xx causing it.

Now I understand what you are experiencing. The attachments in both post #6 & #7 show as animated on my Apple computer. I'm running the latest software update - Catalina 10.15.1 - if that's any help.

I also checked on my iPhone running 13.2.2 - which is the latest for the iPhone. The attachments in both posts show as animated.

Ok, progress. Try downloading a .gif from a google search to your iPhone pictures. Then try to insert it into a post on this thread.

Post #6 had two images. First was inserted from my pictures on my iPad. That image was changed from a .gif to a .jpg.

The 2nd image on #6 was inserted using the “gif button” on Tapatalk.

The issue is likely being caused by the image handler that is running along side the http server....i.e., Apache/ImageMagick etc., etc....

OK - rigustafson. But this operation - finding a gif, downloading to Pictures on the iPhone and then plopping it onto a post on TBN - it's all new to me with the iPhone. It's going to take me time. But I will work on it.
