Picked up a used scraper blade.

How much play should be in the blade? I noticed that new ones are really tight not much wobble in them at all.

When I asked the equipment dealer about that, he said you want play in the attachment so it will bounce some. But how much? If any is the right amount?

Well, I have a Land Pride RB3596 - 96" wide and I've used it seven years. Mainly to plow snow. Measured at the outboard edge it will easily move up 4" and down 4" (total of 8" of travel). The owners manual cautions not to over tighten the nut on the the center pin - - "draw the nut up snug, then back off 1/4 turn". This does allow for considerable "slop" at the pin.

It all seems to work very well that way and I've never had any problems with this implement.

BTW - when new mine was rock hard tight also. With use, the paint is worn off the mating surfaces and the unit has the suggested "slop".

Hope this helps.

Thank you, that is what I was looking for. I'm going to tighten nut up a bit more. I have a 60" blade that has about the same play as yours does. So if mine was at 96", it would have double what you have then, or close to that.

With a 60" blade, what am I looking for? Say 2-3" of movement?

Example why I am asking. When I put mine in tilt setting, I can lower the blade to the ground and it will almost go flat! It will still drop back down and drag a ditch like it is suppose to, but it seems it should be a bit less sloppy than it is.

I'd just do like it says in my Op manual - tighten it up good and tight and back off 1/4 turn. And when I do ditch work I always have to readjust for more tilt - i.e., make up for the blade slop. I definitely do not want to over tighten the nut on the center pin - the center pin is welded in and would be a PITA to replace.
