Has anyone had any expierence using a gill? Will they help level up the ground or would a box blade be better? Are they good for preparing a seed bed for grass? I helped out a friend yesterday with his yard he has new constrution and he had big chunks of dirt all over the place. the ground was very uneven. I tilled the whole thing up and then used my rear blade to move around the lose dirt and then retilled it again. I felt like we could have done a better job if we would have had the right tools. I would have liked to have done a better job of leveling up the yard. Any input would be appreciated.

Gill is a brand name, owned by Woods I believe. I THINK this is an inquiry on th Gill "Pulverizer" or yard tool. I have one. (6') They're good for "finishing" behind a box blade They get soil ready for seed. Until the Harley Rake came on the scene, the pulverizer was the #1 way to finish out yards for planting grass.

You hit the nail on the head that is exactly what I am talking about, like most people call a rotary cutter a bush hog.
Next question what size would my (20hp) 755 handle? Would you be afraid to buy a used one or are most of them worn out when you find them. I think I may buy a box blade also. What size would you recommend.

I use a tr-3 rake made by Absolute Innovations. It does the job of a box blade,scarifier,and pulverizer with only one implement. It has adjustable gauge wheels that let the unit do some floating and you can use it to level truckloads of dirt. On one recent lawn installation I spread and leveled 60 cubic yards of dirt in 1-1/2 hours. It was smooth enough to go right in with my grass drill and plant the lawn. The tr-3 rake is a landscapers dream. A little pricey but when you add up the cost of the other implements its about a wash. This thing is built tough with alot of steel in it and no moving parts to wear out. The only wear point is the replaceable scarifier teeth. Just my .02....
