IT - what do you lay down with that top dresser. Wood chips??

That is the idea. But also limestone screenings for the driveway.

Never realized that getting a Chipper would be the hardest work I have ever done! So I am trying to make the job more streamlined.

Lordy - I should guess. A PTO driven chipper with 12" capacity. You must have a team of gorillas helping with the chipping chores. So with the top dresser you can lay down a layer of limestone screenings on your driveway.

A chipper (I found) is pretty much worthless, unless you can get the downed or dead trees, mostly in the middle of the forest and in difficult terrain, INTO the chipper, and then somehow get the chips, where you want them. You do some firewood and cut a couple of trees down, but with the chipper you are hauling a dozen trees to chip, before that top dresser is full!

The chipper actually has a 15" throat which is a nice feature, even if the tractor is somewhat underpowered for the chipper. My next project is to build an autofeed system, to stop and start the feed when the RPMs drop on large material.

I really don't know any other way one can do this. I mean, once the chips are in the Top Dresser, this took about five minutes or less! Kind of hard in the picture to tell between fallen leaves and chips.

Looks like a nice, even layer.

Looks just fine to me. I just finished chipping all the small pines along my mile long driveway. Where the chips are - very nice, soft, little to no dust. I have no trouble getting my tractor & PTO driven Wallenstein anywhere on my property. One advantage to having 100% Ponderosa pine forrest.

And then, what do you do with the chips as they are made?
