Give me some guidance here--please!!!

I do not think you would have any problem climbing the incline you describe with the RTV1100 as in low range the top speed is about 10mph. I have found in low range the RTV1100 will climb very steep inclines with ease. In high range the climbing ability is okay, but would not work on the incline you describe, maybe in medium speed which is max 17mph.

As far as going down steep inclines I have found staying in 4wd works best as you get the braking effect of the front and rear wheels, otherwise in 2wd you only get braking from the rear wheels only which can cause the rear end to slide if you are going down a steep incline at speed and quickly let off the HST pedal. I will say the braking effect from the hydro is a godsend when you are heavily loaded and going down a steep incline as it allows you to steer without constantly braking or locking up the wheels, kinda like having anti-lock brakes.

I am an XUV owner. I have bought 4 new Gators in the past 4 years. But from what you describe with what your wanting to do and with your father's steering problems, I would go with the Kubota. If nothing else for the power steering, they are the only ones who have it. The XUV has engine braking going down the hills but I would think a hydro transmission would have more.

If I were you, I'd keep the Deere for yourself, and buy your old man an RTV 900. He'll thank you in spades for giving him that power steering!

Heck, the way these things last, assume your Dad makes it to 100 years old, you'll still be inheriting a nice Kubota!

I think that the power steering is important for your dad. RTV sounds like is a winner for him. I am a Polaris Ranger 6x6 owner and fan .... see the pic and video I posted in the thread, "RTV for hilly property in Vermont". The Ranger 6x6 is a true 6 wheel drive, a powerful work horse, and a great machine to climb and play in the mud. It does require some strength to steer the beast.
