Forget how inexpensive that welder was, and treat it like gold.
Do the same thing with all your tools and toys for that matter.
HEck wax and polish your welder.
When your folks see you taking meticulous care of your tools and toys they will be inclined to buy you top line goods since they know you will take care of them - and in the end you wind up with high quality gifts.

My son got to where he didn't take good care of the tools and toys I bought him,,, so I just started buying cheap since he would loose and tear it up right away anyhow.
He is gettin better now about taking care of stuff.

Dang I think I'll go wash and wax my tractor,,, I almost feel guilty after that little speech... I think it has some dust on it
