Hey Botabill I'll take it one step further, I ended up selling my 18yr 1977 Super Glide FXE ! :D
Altho it can be argued that tractor'n can be a dangerous undertaking, it got to where everytime I took my bike out it seemed like I'd always have at least one, but usually more "near misses". Like I had a bounty on my head....
I miss the Hawg more times than not but when I gets the riding blues I fire up my single lung 1966 Wheel Horse then go "4 wheel'n" in the back 40. It tain't the same but I ain't blue no mo :D :D

I'm still finding ways to get things done with my tractors, with the emphasis on spare'n my back. I get things done so fast that that the Mrs' doesn't think of it as work. She's into having me dig up and replant bushes and small trees now..... It IS seat time :D

Mine still doesn't think the tractor was a needed item, especially since I bought two items within a week apart. One was a John Deere 2555 and the other a Steiner 525. The Steiner gets all the credit, since it is one serious mowing machine, and the JD just sits out back, waiting it's turn to shine. The people at the church, and several neighbors appreciate the JD more, since it has helped them by clearing a firebreak around their house, and clearing out some underbrush on 10 acres up at the church. Both machines were too good a deal to turn down, which is why I went to the extreme of buying both.
Actually I bought the Steiner while looking for a larger tractor, sight unseen. A friend had the ok to spend up to $3K on a tractor at a auction that was for employees only. He didn't see a tractor within my price range that would do the job, so he bought me a lawnmower instead.
The JD did get some credit last week from my M-I-L when I hooked to a pine stump and pulled it out by the roots.

My first wife thought I was being very extravagent when I got my first TLB. But she had lived through all the many rentals and hand digging/moving trees... so she went with it. Finally did turn the corner and even learned how to use it a bit.

My second wife chose to forfeit a fancy wedding ring so we could get a JD 2355 and a BearCat 72854 chipper!! Keeper eh? But she was apprehensive when I went shopping for a new TLB. She turned around when she saw how fast the new bigger materials bucket made her manure pile dissapear :)

I have the code now. All I have to do is show how something will make life better for her horses and it's mine!! I am still thinking about how to angle the plasma cutter and large band saw....

Plasma cutter? How about custom designed horse shoes cut from exotic materials?

The bandsaw is easy - it is one of the handiest machines I own. I can do anything from making thin wood out of thick wood, simple scrolling, gang cutting for simple duplicating, even cut circles if the table is large enough.

I have used the band saw to cut tenons on antique bed rails, trim wood flooring pieces, size tons of plastic pipe while plumbing.

If you don't have a bandsaw - you NEED one. It will be invaluable around the house and the farm. Also great for "craft" work too.

Did I mention the new table top bandsaws used for smaller "craft work, and the small vertical belt sanders, how about a ...................

Amen. I'm wanting to build a pole barn on my property to keep my tractor in but my wife is complaining about the cost. We keep one of our horses on a neighboring farm and its a good arrangement but the barn is about 3/4 of a mile down the road. When I suggested that I could add another bay and make it into a stall and fence in a little corrall around it she instantly warmed to the idea. I may get a barn and a post hole digger out of this!

No, can't say I ever did. My bandsaw is large enough to cut it - but, fortunately, I've never had the need to horse something that large into it.
