wood pellets have gone up in price much slower then other sources of heat Wood Pellets Cost Comparison
Read that comparison and had to laugh when I saw oil. In 30-50 years from now, no home will be heated with oil.

Pellet stoves are nice. One came with our house when we bought it five years ago. You have to use one to really appreciate them.
We have 1650 sq.ft. on the main level plus same sq.ft.basement area.We go threw 3-4 tons of pellets in a normal winter so at $175 per ton =$700 in a normal year. This year of course it will be about 4-5 tons.I keep about 8-10 tons on hand every year and rotate the stock.I've got to ask, what is the square footage of your house and what does the total cost of pellets run you to heat your home? I have no clue with a pellet stove.
Wonder what type of stove your mother in law has?Our stove only has to cleaned about 1 time a week or so.If I burned wood I would expect the same time frame of cleaning also.My mother in law has 2 and she hates them. I think because she constantly has to clean them. I thought about one, but due to the layout of my house I really have no place to put it to vent it, due to doors and windows.
Plus it goes against my philosophy of wanting to heat my home for free (other than labor and time for firewood). I'd still have to buy pellets as my heat source.
