I am no expert on finances but I am 61 and have went through some good times and some bad times. Example I was in the stock market during the 90's good times right? I was also in the car business (new car franchise) during the 1970's bad times right?

Well with that said I say this. I don't care what the media says, the government does or etc. Some folks will do good while others won't.

I will say things are getting tougher and tougher every day. I feel sorry for the young folks who don't have good money management skills. They are getting ready for a rude awakening.

I am a white guy but once or twice a week I have brerakfast in an almost totally black resturant. I am normally the only white guy in the place. I have been doing this for many years. It is kind of a breakfast club. I have made some good friends there. Many are working class while some are retired with a few who are on welfare thrown in for good measure. I was told recently by one of the men I respect most that he see soup lines in the black commiunity in the next one to two years. I go on further and say it will not just effect the black community but all communities. Job are slowing down. Wages are not keeping up with increased cost.

I am sorry but many haven't prepared for what the economy is going to do. Our dollar is weaker now that I can remember it being.

Keep those tractors you are going to need them to grow food.

Just my 2 cents.

Shadow Government Statistics » Home 2. The site is run by John Williams, an economist who calculates things the old way, and it is a better reflection of what we are actually experiencing than the tripe you get from the BLS and BES.

Very interesting site. Thanks for posting it.

Yep, all those jobs still being outsourced offshore are gonna come back to haunt our economy. And no one can ignore all those people's whose houses arre being forclosed and/or are going through auction forced sales - scary indeed. i guess I will need to work quite a few more years than i planned unless i hit the lottery and move to US Somoa, and if gas gets too much higher, i might have to resort to using my new cab tractor to get to work! - Diesel is nore epensive but the JD gets better mileage than the cars - just does it slower!

Congrats Messicks.

As far as the economy, talk to those that are older, wiser, smarter, been there and been through it before, this is what you'll find.

A man was walking down the street and fell in a hole in the sidewalk in a construction zone, because he wasn't paying attention. After being in the hole breifly he realized the walls were to steep to climb up out of. A passerby looked into the hole and saw the man, and announced he was a doctor. The doctor asked do you need medical attention? The man in the hole said I have a small cut. The doctor lowered a band aid down to him on a string and continued on his way. The next passerby saw the man in the hole and announced he was a preacher. The preacher asked the man in the hole if he needed help and he said "I do". The preacher wrote a blessing on a piece of paper and lowered it down on a piece of string to the man in the hole and continued on his way. The next passerby looked into the hole and saw the man in the hole and realized it was his best friend. Without hesitation jumped into the hole with his friend. The man in the hole asked "why did you do that, now were both stuck". His best friend replied no we're not I've been here before and know how to get out!

No problem froggy, more people need to know just how bad the government is cooking the books. I'm just glad that Dr. Williams puts the info out for all to see. I wish that the media would give more accurate stats to more people. Maybe they're trying to keep the lid on things, I don't know. I do know that the combination of debt, currency devaluation, commodity and energy prices are stacking up for a really bad time over the next few years. I sincerely hope that I'm wrong, and will happily eat crow if I am.

I work in the repair shop at a Kubota dealership, I know we are having issues finding tractors and mowers that folks want to buy, they just cannot be found. Boss man says whenever the economy sucks, tractor sales are up, we are in north central indiana in the middle of farm land. Means long days and every other saturday for me, job security for now. Cheers Mike

I find it interesting what happened to Enron and AA for cooking the books and Uncle Suger does the same thing on an even bigger scale. At least we should get a free jar of vaseline when we file federal and state income tax returns.

I had a chance to talk with one of the techs from the local Deere dealership. I asked him how things were going. He said they are doing a lot of work in the service area, they are about out of big equipment and that no more is being delivered until fall, and that they are selling the CUTs about as fast as they come in. This is between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, a dealer with 3 stores about 50 miles apart.
