Hi,
I'm just wondering if the glow plug indicator light on the B7800 is suppose to go off when it gets hot enough. Mine never seems to go off before I can crank it, and it does start after holding it down about 5 seconds.
thanks, brett w

There is no timer in the circuit. The glow plug light is in parallel with the glow plugs.

The light will be on and the glow plugs energized when the key is in either the pre-heat or start position...

AT least that is the way it is on the B2910. I assume it is the same on the B7800 since they are billed as being the same tractor except for a few frills... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Brett, I won't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure the glow plug indicator does NOT go off. At least it didn't on my B7100 and B2710.

BrettW: I don't think it goes off, either. I have used the glow plug for varying times, depending on how cold it has been overnight, per owners' manual, and it has never gone off during any period of use between 4-5 seconds and up to 10-12.

If the engine doesn't fire smoothly, you probably didn't use the glow plug long enough. You'll get a feel for the needed time, depending on temp. after a while.

The glow plug indicator tells you that you are using the glow plug. It goes off when you move the switch to the next notch and start the engine!
When my 7800 was delivered the instructions were - "turn the key to start, mine almost always does. If it doesn't start go back to glow for a few seconds then crank it. "

I have found that it starts right up in summer and early fall, takes about 2 seconds in late fall and when the temp drops to 8 I give it a whole 5 count.

I would bet that in SC you will rarely ever need to pause in the glow position.
