Since cold weather I have been heating glow plugs for about 30 seconds, thinking longer is better. I looked at the owners manual for my BX1830 and it shows a temperature chart with a maximum of 10 to 12 seconds for glow plugs. My question is do you think I have cooked my glow plugs by holding them on for too long ? Thanks for comments.

As long as they are still working I would not worry. With the engine cold, heat them for 15 seconds then touch the top of them, usually you can feel some warmth(usually, maybe not in 25 below).

I used to have an 1977 Mercedes 240D. It had a glow plug light that turned off when it was good to go. I also noticed that the light on my bx1500 stays lite until the engine starts.

In my experience, glow plugs tend to be pretty tough. However, if your tractor is increasingly difficult to start, that could be a sign of failure.
