Is it necessary to wait for the glow plug light to turn off before starting the tractor? Will 10-15 seconds suffice to turn key?

In warm temps, the GP light pretty much goes out after a few seconds. Generally not needed till it gets colder.

My light stays on the same amount of time in the summer as it does in the winter. I'm in east Texas so no harsh winters here. I probably won't wait the entire time for the light to go out in the summer then.

My tractor does not even have one.... IT just states put switch over to glow plug heat position for about 8-10 seconds...

You should probably read your manual or talk to your mechanic to see what the glow plug light is indicating. Is it just telling you to energize the glow plugs manually? If so you can ignore it when it's warm outside. Is it telling you the tractor is cold and therefore it's automatically running the glow plugs? Different machines handle it differently.

I've read the manual. It says to wait. I always wait. I don't normally jump on the tractor before I put key in the ignition. There are those times when I have nothing to prep and i get up onto the tractor and wait. Thanks.

On my tractor the glow plug light will only stay on a short time in the summer. Longer in the winter. When it is already hot, almost not at all.
On my son's tractor, it stays on about 12 seconds each time it is started, winter, summer, hot or cold. Even if he has been running all day.

I guess I don't understand Post #1 then. If you knew the answer, why ask?
