I brought the question up for 2 reasons:
1. It didn't seem like my light was going out at all. (I like to do things the way manufacturer and manual recommends.)
2. I am new to diesels and a friend with a Ford Powerstroke is adament about the light going completely out before he cranks the engine.
I made a similar post in the general Owning/Operating forum that you might want to look at too. A lot of diesel opinions were flying around up there...
