Mahindra 4110
All of a sudden tractor smokes like the fuel is cold and won’t start. This tractors has always started. Where are the glow plugs located on Mahindra 4110 and how do I know if they are bad?

Hi, and welcome to TBN. Glow plugs I've seen are near the top of the engine, frequently on the right side. They look kind of like spark plugs but don't have the heavy cable like spark plugs. Put a voltmeter on the connector at the top of the plug and ground the other lead. When the glow plug is activated you should read about ten volts. If no voltage that's a problem. Disconnect the wire from all the glow plugs Connect the voltmeter to the wire as before and test for power. If still now power it's not the glow plugs. If you have power check the resistance of each glow plug. They may be open or shorted. They should read about 0.5 ohm each so you'll have to take the resistance of your ohmmeter leads into consideration. Glow plugs are basically a heater.

What color smoke are you seeing, should be black if the engine is getting enough diesel.
Depending on your temperature you shouldn’t need the plugs to start, yes they will help but just give the engine extra throttle and you should be able to start it.

Yep, the fuel is probably cold. That happens in the winter. Your fuel should be winterized. If not and the temperature gets too cold it can cease to flow.

If your Mahindra is not ancient, its possible that instead of glow "plugs", you have a heater instead. Kind of replaces indv glow plugs.

If you turn your key on, or to the left and hold it, you should see the heater light on your dash. Wait until it goes off and then try to start it. It usually helps. I'd also check your fuel filters and lines for proper flow.

What colour is the smoke?.....does it clear up when the engine gets to operating temp?
If memory serves the way to check what kind of shape your glow plugs are in is to do a resistance check with an ohm metre check and make sure power is getting to them first.....it may be a pooched controller that is giving you grief
Have you got a block heater to plug it in.....if you do you may consider not fixing the glow plugs and just plug it in an hour or two before you need to use it.....food for thought
