GM 5.3 gas mileage

I will say this, out of all my half tons, it pulls the best. I brought my 3 horse sundowner trailer (about 3800 lbs) to get a tire repaired to town this morning and it pulled it great. Not much weight but a bit of a brick with the wind. Very little downshifting and no gear hunting like my 05 Z71. This is my 6th half ton, 4th GM 1/2 ton. The other two were F150s.

I think you'll find that you have an all around good truck. The mileage may not be to you liking, but it'll surprise you when you put it to work...

Honestly, I work with people of all truck denominations and none of them get the mileage that I get. I don't lie about what I get because I really don't care that much.

Referring to gassers obviously....Some of the diesels do better than me.

I've had my 4X4 F-150 3.5 EcoBoost for 10 days now and love the ride and the towing is supposed to be as good as their 8 cylinders. Time will tell.

So far, I'm averaging about 20.5 mpg, with half city and half hwy. Still under 1k miles.

i'd like to hear about how well they do on an extended run with a towed load on them.

a salesman was really trying to push one on me.. and i frankly don't think it would be up to the task of constant hp output on an extended tow at max trailer payload... but... would like to hear the endurance test if someone else is paying for it :)

I traded an F250 06 w/ the 6.0 for this truck. Did not have a need for the diesel anymore. The F250 got about 16.8-17.2 mpg. I am starting to believe my 05 Z71 had 3.08 gears instead of 3.42 or 3.73. It just hunted gears too much.

It's funny that everybody doubts these engines with turbos have the toughness required, but slap a turbo on a diesel and suddenly it's the epicenter of reliability.

I would have no qualms about using a turbo V6 to do the work of an ordinary 8 cylinder.

The Ford Ecoboost will probably be my next truck.

I average around 16mpg with mixed driving..2011 GMC 6.2 6sp 3:42 4x4. I run it pretty hard though, 70+ mph going to work.

On the highway, taking it easy, I can get 19-20 depending.

i too have a 2011 GMC CC 4x4 with the 6.2 except 3.73 gears and i've averaged 15/16/17 mpg's mixed driving in my first 1,000 miles on the truck. can't get a consistant mpg yet because it seems to be all over the place. i have yet to do an interstate only drive on a tank, but with it mixed in with some city and country road driving i'm seeing 15-17. funny thing is that i got 16 with my 04 5.3 no matter what!

My '05 Z71 w/5.3 gets 16.3 in town driving...lots of short runs. On the hi way in cruse and running the speed limit (65) I can get close to 19mpg on a good day. 18.5 is more the norm. I have the 3:42 screw in the back end and run synthetic oil in the engine and both front and rear differentials. I'm probably one of the few here that didn't buy the truck looking for mileage. I got it because I wanted it, but am satisfied w/mileage anyway. Being retired makes a big difference. If I had a job that requires I drive 50 -100 mi each day, I'd look for something more economical.

same here... it would be nice to see some reliable data on the Eco-Boost under max payload in high ambient conditions...
I do not believe it will hold up either..

considering i've seen large diesels go over a million miles with no engine work, and / or 12000 hours.. etc.. vs NOT that much on gas engines.. yeah... epicenter of reliability...

at work we bought a mack tractor.. 80 i think.. when we got it it had a mil on it. .. got it from a milk hauler who bought it new... never had the engine worked on.. at all we dropped the pan on it and checked a main.. still looked new.. we put it back together. we ran that truck for another half million and then sold it. only work it ever had done was an air pump and a rear-rear end.

I'm guessing a gasser wouldn't have faired so well :)
