If he happens to be Muslim, the Beer would have to be non-alcoholic. No one would shed a tear if that fell off the back. Just curious, if that would be a diesel. THAT would be my next truck if it were possible. That thing looks simple and dirt cheap. Is that a magnetic door decal? If the US built a thing like that, it would end up costing two million dollars a pop.

It probably gets 50 mpg with a nice rugged bed to boot. Good thing the government is watching out for us and won’t let us have vehicles like that.

The bottom line is that a van is bought for practicality and a truck for bragging rights.

This is my version of practicality. Heaving firewood rounds into a van would probably be a bit hard on the body...


And being able to bring my home with me, using that same truck, is a big plus.

You could increase the firewood hauling capabilities 10 fold with a dump bed. It wouldn’t take a day to destroy that bed hauling logs or other heavy stuff. And the best part is I can unload it without getting out of the truck.

You guys cant have those because of the chicken tax: a 25% excise on imported light commercial vehicles. With that artificial threshold, they have to build it in the USA, which means you get a Tacoma with all the bells and whistles which people want for commuter transport, because thats what makes them money.

It would have to be an awfully big dump bed. Take a look at my photo again. This is the Nevada desert. No trees. I have to bring in my wood from Oregon. 480 miles round trip to bring in a load. So minimum of 5 cords per trip.

My bed is wider than the dually bed with no space lost for wheel cutouts. And it looks like pine so I could put higher side boards on it than I’m using now. That load of oak is probably between 7-8000 pounds. But if I was running 500 miles I’d trade my 6500 dump for a not gas guzzling version and take my 10 yard dump and my 10 ton trailer. But if I had to go 5 miles I’d probably complain about it.

Emissions aren't the big problem (a US marker engine could be dropped in), meeting US safety and crash test standards would be much more expensive.

While I would love to have a ton truck similar to yours, it will be a second vehicle and very impractical for what most people buy a truck for. You and Renze are both comparing your heavy duty commercial vehicles to light pickups, which is like comparing apples to bananas. I really wouldn't want to bounce 200 miles to my mother's house and 200 miles back every two weeks in a heavy truck just because somebody doesn't agree with what I drive... and bounce is the right word considering the roads around here. Right now my company truck has my ATV in the back because I need it tomorrow; while my Ranger has 100 gallons of water, lime, fertilizer, and various garden tools in back so that I can water my livestock and work in the garden when my day is done. Furthermore it's nobody's business but my own what I drive, as you aren't the one paying the bills.
