GMC 2500 4x4 pricing

That truck probably was $34k new, easy. I just bought a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500, Ext Cab, 4x4, LT version, just missing the leather and power seats. Sticker price brand new was $30900.

The truck you mention is still not a very good deal. Only 5k off on a 1 year old truck with 8k miles? GM's employee discount on their brand new full size pickup's is 16.5%. So, I got my truck for just a bit over 26k, nearly 5k off list. 23k-24k would probably be a fair price for what you are looking at.

well the "book" dealers use around here is the "Black" book, you can find it either edmounds.com or cars.com, I can't remember which.

I just got a 2002 GMC 2500HD with the Duramax/Allison and SLT package for 36k (GMS Price)

I know why the guy traded up for the DMAX engine. If you looking to upgrade, go professional grade(sorry, a GMC plug there) to the DMAX too, your costs and resale over the next 5 years will be much better for you.

just my .02 worth

Re: GMC 2500 4x4-Ext.Cab pricing

I thought that I could get a deal on this crew cab - but starting to see that wasn't the case. It would be nice for the kids to climb in back, more room. But I was concerned about driving around town, parking, and whatnot, with longer wheel base
I have never bought a new truck, so I am getting an education.
I am going to check out extended cabs as well.

Going with diesel - ??? I'm sure resale is better, but I just haven't considered it enough ? I guess I'll give one a test drive. My employer pays all my gas - not sure if that would cover diesel ?? haha

Re: GMC 2500 4x4-Ext.Cab pricing

Didn't you say it was a short bed? You should have no problems with it around town.

I have the long bed crew cab and sometimes finding a good parking place is tough.

But I suggest a crew cab over an extended cab any day. Having 4 doors is a beautiful thing.

Re: GMC 2500 4x4-Ext.Cab pricing

Well y'all got me motivated to try and swing a deal for the 2500 crew cab, got my 97 dodge larimie slt, 4x4, 80k, cleaned up. Went down and drove the gmc one more time, I still like it. I asked them work up a deal. And not only would they not come off the 29k for the gmc, but would only give me 7k for my Dodge. Guess it is time to do some more shopping.

Just to double check the specs and pricing on the gmc, I wanted to list the specs and the sticker price again.
2500HD gmc slt 4x4 crew cab, the base price listed is 32769,
then there is an add for a marketing 1sd package, which is for onstar and leather, and elec shift transker case, I think. That is an 1945.00 add. Then another 825 for comfort group ? Then another $4037 for other extras, locking rear diff, tow package, heavy duty trailering, fog lights, rear window defroster, ... and another $690 for destination chrg, so the sticker price comes to $ 37496.00 and yes it is a 2001 model and has 8000 miles on it. And the first owner had a bed liner sprayed in it. I know enough to know the sticker is not the price to pay, but I just don't get the games you have to play.
I am just confused as to how some have said that this truck is worth around 23k -25k.
And John Miller, thanks for the costing data you sent, can you decifer some of that for me?

Thanks

Todd, You have to realize a franchised GMC or Chevrolet dealer will keep the best trades to make money on their lot... a small dealer or non-franchised dealer will bring the unit to the auction and "unload" it. Example a VW dealer taking a GMC truck in trade normally will not have the customer base to resale the GMC truck... so that dealer will sell the truck at a "dealer's auction" for wholesale.... Like tractors... the truck pricing is regional and "whatever the market will bear price"... the dealer better make $2000-2500. minimum profit or something is wrong! And on a loaded leather/bells & whistles truck... its more like $3-5K...

Good luck Todd...

Re: GMC 2500 4x4-Ext.Cab pricing

ShantyBranch,
What people like gatorboy and myself are considering is that when you buy that truck what's it really worth? It's worth the 23-25k. If you went back the next day and tryed to trade that truck back because you wanted a duramax, guess what? They will give you 23-25k.

I'll give you a perfect example. December 1999 I bought my wife a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer loaded with everything. She thought she wanted this vehicle. I had looked around for awhile and they were pretty pricey and dealers didn't move much. Well in December I saw on the internet that there was a $2000 customer rebate and a $2500 dealer rebate. The dealer in town was selling for $200 under invoice. I went there and he wasn't giving the rebates to the customers. I said you're really not selling under invoice then and he said yes we are. Well you get the point. I called another dealer and said look here's the deal. If you will give these rebates and invoice pricing I'll buy it. They said yes on the customer but not the dealer rebate. I said forget it then. A day later they called me back and said ok we'll give you both rebates. Well bought that for her. Final price was around $27,000. Well she drove it for a month and decided she wanted the Expedition instead of that. So one month and 1200 miles later I went to trade it for a 2000 Expedition. For that 2000 Mountaineer they would only give me $21,000 trade-in!!! The sticker on that thing was $34,000. I said you mean you will only give 21k for a month old vehicle? I went to four different dealers. To say the least my wife is still driving it. I don't mind dealers making a profit but I'm not going to pay more for something than when I drive it off the lot I can't even turn around in a few days and at least get close to what I paid for it.
