go carts

I'm looking into getting my twins some go carts. Right now they have some Power Wheels Jeeps, which work pretty good, but they're outgrowing them. I've seen some go carts at TSC and Walmart for around $800, which is more than I'd like to spend (especially since I'll be getting 2 of them). I don't need, or want, anything that will go very fast, 5 to 10 MPH would be fine. But, I want something that will have the power and traction for non-pavement and hills. I have a feeling the ones at TSC and Walmart are probably higher speed than I want.

I'm not in any hurry, I actually want them for next year, so I don't mind something in kit form or some used ones that might need some work. The kids are only 6, so it needs to be something that’s easy to drive, just push the gas and go, no shifting or clutch. If it doesn’t have a roll bar I can add that. Does anyone know of any kits or someplace that sells used ones?

i've seen a couple murray brand go carts, that looked like new, sell for $250 each lately...one had a hole in the fuel float.. it might be worth doing a little advertising for a used one..i bought the other one, it has a 6 hp tucumseh(creative spelling) motor, and also has some kind of carb problem.. i am looking for a 3 or 5 hp briggs with electric start...i don't wanna have to go crank the thing everytime someone wants to ride it.

Northern Equipment advertised some go-carts that were specifically designed for small kids. 3.5 hp engine with 6mph governed speed. I don't know if they still carry them. www.northern-online.com
