A girl I was dating two years ago is from Monticello and her parents have quite a bit of land there. We went duck hunting on their land one day, which was open flooded pasture. We limited out in a couple of hours, then went over to the timber companies hunting club for breakfast. The owner of the company is good friends with her dad and they are always welcome to come over there. While eating we got to talking about hunting and he invited us to hunt with him in his private blind, which is flooded timber. I had never hunted in flooded timber before, I had just seen in done on TV.

He said it cost him $75,000 just to pump the water into the timber to flood it!!! We all shot our limits, but it took about twice as long as it did the day before in the open fields. The shooting was more fun and exciting. Unlike hunting the open areas, the birds just show up out of nowhere in the trees and you barely have time to pull up on them. There was a lot more missing that day too!!!

I've duck hunted quite a bit back in CA when I lived there, and enjoy sitting in the marsh waiting for the birds to fly. Arkansas was better in every way.

Might want to consider Aransas Pass Tx. We went there on a tip from my dog trainer. Pull up and park beside the beach or bay, very similar to inter coastal we have in NC. 4 or 5 tractor trailers ( offices ) set up with gen sets, about 40 air boats waiting on customers. Go up pay and get in Air boat ( that was cool ). 15 minute ride to blind. We shot our limit in Red Heads after only 30 minutes. Stood up in blind ( no camo ) for 3 hours waiting for air boat to pick us up. We could have easily shot 30 or 40 that day. They also have a cast and blast program for guys who like to fish.
