Goldoni differential case repair

Very nicely done. Brazing cast iron is a very good fix. Better, in my opinion, than nickel welding in a lot applications. I find that there are fewer and fewer welders that are good at brazing. Kind of a lost art. Lots (including me, a machinist) can braze, but few are really good at it. I agree that good preheat and slow cooling is very important. Good point about getting it too hot too. BTDT.

One thing I didn't mention (and should have) is that during the preheat and when heating the casting after brazing, we used one of the small hand held infrared heat sensors. They cost about $25 to $30 and are really helpful with cast iron because you do want to heat everything evenly to prevent stress. As we all know, heating evenly and cooling slowly is important with cast iron welding or brazing. While the small hand held sensors are inexpensive and admittedly cheap looking, they are really handy for this type of thing.

Just a quick follow up on the brazing of the case. After using the tractor for four years, we recently sold it to a couple in Michigan. The casting repair has never given any problem and I doubt it ever will. The tractor has been used with a Tiller, a Spader, a Mower and pulling my gas welder around for me. Wonderful tractor, but you can't keep them all.
