Thank you folks. I had not thought about looking at lease or rental returns but that makes a lot of sense.

Thanks again,
Mark

DO NOT get one of the small 10HP gators. I can't tell you how many people call me and complain about how they have no power. Guys say they will start to die and slow down on even a mild slope.

A golf carts' electric motor has far more torque and will work much better.

You can pick up a used golf cart in my neck of the woods for about $2500. My neighbor regularly scares the crap out of me because it is so darn quiet he slips right up on me. They have them jacked up with mudders for not much more. Even with slick golf cart tires I only saw it stuck once in the snow on a hill.
I am in SC but I would be happy th check prices. My friend has had his cart about 5 years now. It has a jump seat and some type of expanded metal extension on the back so you could put fertilizer on it with out hurting the upolstery.
I love them because of the quietness and relative cheapness.

Enjoy

My wife's grandparents only use electric golf carts for 20ish acres of peonies. Grandma complains of fumes from gas powered vehicles. Grandpa just says ok and deals with it. they do a great job, but they would be candidates for a 6x4 gator. I have to admit as a city boy it is fun to take the kids up to the farm and buzz around on the golf cart. They are so quiet.

I'm looking at getting my daughters a couple of used golf cars to run around with on the property. My neighbor is a retired 'gear head' who did some serious research before buying one last fall. He told me Club Car's were superior to everything else he looked at. WHy I don't remember. But he took the old body off and made his own out of fiberglass with a diamond aluminum rear seat/box. Really cool looking. He cut the frame and lifted it and added chrome wheels and knobby tires. Apparently he and his buddy travel to lots of car shows and they want the golf carts to ride around in as opposed to walking. He went with gas carts for this reason.

Last week I checked at "golf carts plus", a local used golf cart dealer (On the Web). He had alot of (30-40) golf carts in stock but told me he felt Club Car was also the best because the parts from a '90'are the same as the parts in a '91',92, 98!. So they are readily available if you ever need them. He also said electric is more reliable than gas. He said the Yamaha's were well built also but getting parts can be a problem. Club Car and Yamaha both use aluminum frames I'm told. Hope this helps.

Mark,

I have a gas Club Car with a 300 # capacity dump utility bed on the back. It was formerly used as a golf cart and I bought it at the end of a three year lease. I have four acres of mountain property and my wife and I use it for gardening, hauling etc. It is great and will haul a heavy load up a steep hill with no problem. Gas is the way to go if you have hills. I love the way you step on the gas and go with no extra steps to start. I did let a neighbors dog jump in last weekend and he accidentally sat on the gas pedal. Luckily no harm done. One last note... it won't move at all in the snow.

Good Luck!

Did you put the dump bed on it yourself, or did you buy it that way?

My parents who own a golf course routinely sell their older golf cars for pennies on the dollar. I might get to take and revamp a old car and turn it into a yooper buggy /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Please tell me more about the dumper on the back end.

Thanks

Yooper Dave

Dave,

I bought it from a dealer a couple of years ago. They had a bunch of them that had just come back from a 3 year lease. It has a windshield and canopy top. I believe the price including the dump bed was $3,000. Not cheap but a lot less than many other utility vehicles. The dump bed is manually operated and around $400 I think. It's a real work horse for the money.
