Well the Midwest cutter I bought out of ignorance is still in the shop-10 days now. They cant get parts, yada yada yada. The slip clutch never slipped, killing the tractor 3 different times. The tailwheel seized up on its spindle-apparently a common problem with these cutters, spun the bolt and burned thru the frame, fell off, bending the wheel frame. several welds already cracked- with less than 25 hours on it.
But I digress...Landpride or Woods? How much of what I originally paid should be applied to the replacement?

For 60 acres and that TC40... the Woods BrushBull 600 Med. duty 60" would be a good match. The medium duty BB600 is built like a tank.. almost at 1100lbs.. the diff. is like night & day compared to a light duty cutter.. the price might be too.. looking at $1200-$1400 range.

I just took delivery of a 6 foot medium duty Land Pride Rotary cutter. I've only used it 2 hours so far but I like it a lot. Much better then the used King Kutter it replaced. Both the Woods and the Land Pride medium duty machines were near identical. I picked the Land Pride over the woods because I knew for a fact the Land Pride was made in the USA (wasn't sure about the woods) and the information I read about the two companies gave me more of a warm and fuzzy feeling about Land Pride. (ANd I could be totally wrong about that and just fell for some good marketing /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif )

I think the price difference was within $200 also.

I've got a Woods BrushBull 600 Med. duty 60". I'm very happy with it.

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

I have a BB72 medium duty, and I like it a lot, as I liked my BB60 before that. My TC35 pulls it fine, so your TC40 will pull it great. It's built real strong, and weighs over 700 pounds. I got it for ~$900.

I have a Woods BB60 That I use on my TC33D and it is a real nice piece of equipment. Worth every penny of the $725 I paid for it. The tail wheel & spindle are equipped with grease fittings.

Sorry to hear about the problems. No fun when you spend money on equipment and get nothing but greif in return.

Woods and landpride are great products.
You may also consider bush hog.

I have a medium duty six foot bush hog and it is bullet proof.

I have cut trees with it at least 3" in diameter as well as all manner of brush. Some of the trees required me to back up over them.

This unit is great for this type of heavy brush as well as just cutting grass.

Make sure you get a 72" and not a 60". I have an old howse 60" which I've treated with very little respect, its held up fine but wish I had 72" as the 60" does not cover the wheel tracks on my TC40D. Planning on buying a replacement next spring since most of the rough work is nearing completion and just need to maintain the property.

Hold on...it gets better.
When I asked the dealer to give me a number to dump the cutter back on them and buy a landpride-of which they had several on hand. THey suddenly had my cutter ready-repaired for free and I stupidly took it back. I mowed some fencelines saturday morning and when I idled down to shut'er down I felt a wobble and looked back to see the gearbox kicking i tself back and forth a 1/2 inch or so in it's hole.
Wonderful!

Did the bolts holding the gearbox to the deck come loose or even worse undone? I had that happen on my old King Kutter. Replaced the bolts and used good quality locking nuts after that.

It's unfortunate that you're having such problems with a new piece of equipment. Sounds like the dealer may have been jerking your chain a little.

So far I have about 4 hours on my Land Pride and love it. Even though my neighbor thinks I'm crazy for spending that kind of money on a rotary cutter, but he is looking at buying the old King Kutter from me.
