I'm wondering just how much a tractor like this should go for, any idea?

How do these scams work? Obviously the tractor is underpriced, do people pay with cash or check and then don't get the tractor? Is it an upsell? I am confused on how people would fall for these scams.

If it smells like cheese.....it usually is.

We had a series of gunpoint robberies where victims were lured to locations by Craiglist adds for high end cars. This could be similar. Face to face means CASH. I'd only go with a couple of friends, Smith & Wesson.

I'm thinking the TLB would've been about $15k and the MMM $2300, for a total of $17,300 before tax. Take about $10/hr. depreciation and that leaves $16,300 as a high end price. If it were mine to sell, I think I'd ask at least $14k. The gunpoint scenario seems a distinct possibility here to me. I imagine the buyer would get strung into a cascading series of events where the plan changes over and over with supposed "emergencies" cropping up, and winds up at the end of some long rural road in the middle of nowhere.

I wouldn't think you would find many tractor deals where the transaction would be $5K or more in CASH. I wouldn't do that buying for sure.

When I buy or sell something in the <$1K range, cash speaks. Over that, I want a bank check, and you now have to make sure those are real.

If you bring cash you stand a chance of making the evening news or maybe the obits. If you bring a bank check no seller in his right mind would accept it on face value as the proliferation of high end color printer makes forging those child's play. The Seller would request that the payment will have to clear and then you have to wonder if you will get the tractor when that clears. It's ugly out there, the only thing you're likely going to get if you get ripped off is sympathy. For my money I go to the place with the big orange or green signs. As a personal rule I never buy anthing of greater value on EBay than I'm willing to loose. Which for me is not much.;)
