Have a look at the attached pics.

This one is of an area near the house at the top of the driveway. Taken when we first moved in in December 2002.

Nothing marvellous you say......

OK

This next pic is ayear later, in December 2001. I got 6 free truckloads of topsoil from the council after they cleaned out the local drains etc.

Looked to be good soil and it was FREE !!

OK now here is a pic taken just last week. 6 months after the last photo.

We struggled through our hottest summer on record and the driest summer on record.

Amazing what mulch hay and dripper irrigation can acheive.

All the plant in the garden were $1 tube stock. None more that say 8" high.

The gum trees are now 6' high. Not bad in 6 months.

Cool hey !!

Cheers

Neil:

That is amazing growth, especially given the lack of water. How tall will they eventually grow?

Some of the gums can grow as high as 30-50m (150-250 feet)

Hence most of them are some distance from the house.

However they take a long time to get that high so I won't have that problems for a LONG time yet.

Many in that garden are smaller shrubs (All native of course)

Cheers

Neil,

Remember, have power pruner; will travel. Just send my ticket in the mail. When I'm there, do you want to do some flyfishing in New Zealand?

Nice pictures -- you obviously have done lots of work on the land. It's fun to see what you have done with native trees so foreign to my life experience. Keep the pictures coming.

If you are still up for it in say 15 years. You are on !!

Dunno about NZ. That's a long way away for me.

Yep - Lots of work into that garden. Another of similar size on the other side of the driveway. Will look good too.

Cheers

Great job. I live in a dry region also. I agree, I use old hay to mulch with, drip irrigation, and haul in well matured manure. It makes all the differance in the world. Where I live, if you want a tree you have to plant it. Good to know I am not the only one.
