With a Category 4 hurricane headed your way, I hope that you are taking precautions. Having been through a couple (Betsy and Camile in New Orleans) here are some suggestions:

1) Fill the bath tubs with water
2) Get a bunch of fresh batteries of all sizes
3) Get extra coleman fuel for your latern and stove
4) Stock up on canned food
5) Start reducing your freezer load now
6) Start preparing a plan for contacting relatives (time/phone numbers, etc.)
7) Fill the car gas tanks
8) Fill the BBQ propane tank
9) If you are in a low area, leave the area for higher ground now.
10) Watch out for downed electical lines/snakes/gators while you are walking in the flooded streets
11) Put extra matches in a dry container
12) If family members should get separated have a preplanned rendeavous point/time
13) Review your insurance papers now and place them in a secure place
14) Secure patio furniture
15) Charge the cell phone and get extra batteries
16) Tape/board the windows

We had shingles imbedded in the side of the house after some of these hurricanes, so this is nothing to take lightly.

This ought to keep you a little busy for the next couple of days. Good luck and stay dry!!

I have been watching the updates on the storm track with the hopes that it would not hammer FL again but it seems as though its going to hit.

I certainly hope everyone is prepared and comes through this next storm with no loss of life, limb or property.

all good advice . I've been thinking about the folks that are in harms way all day . Although I know it's not realistic , I'm hoping and praying that everyone comes out of this unscathed . So, to all of you in harms way take good care ,and I hope you all fare well . John

So much for thread drift . /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif But seriously there are a lot of people about to lose their property and possibly lives .
Hopefully it will only come down to damage of property .

I wish all the best to those of you in FL. This storm will be a real gully washer. Better batten down those hatches! I heard this storm is twice the size as Andrew and will cover the whole state. They said the storm was as big as Texas. Good luck!
