Key Beneficiary Sectors:

  • Oil & Gas (Exploration, Production, Refining): U.S. oil majors like Chevron (already present) and others would invest heavily in repairing aging infrastructure, increasing production, and potentially exporting more crude, according to Reuters, The New York Times, and Seeking Alpha.
  • Engineering & Construction: Firms involved in large-scale infrastructure projects would see significant opportunities in refurbishing Venezuela's oil facilities, notes The New York Times.
  • Defense Contractors: If the takeover involves military action, companies like Lockheed Martin (LMT) and RTX (Raytheon) could benefit from increased demand for weapons and defense systems, according to AOL.com and 24/7 Wall St..
  • Energy Services & Logistics: Companies in Houston, a major oil hub, would see increased activity as they support operations in Venezuela, says Houston Public Media.
  • Agriculture & Other Trade: Renewed stability could boost U.S. exports of goods like soybean meal, wheat, and cars, reversing recent trade patterns, notes The Observatory of Economic Complexity.
  • Key Players:
  • Chevron: Already operating in Venezuela, positioned for major expansion, notes Reuters.
  • Other Major Oil Companies: ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips (which previously sought compensation for seized assets) might return, says Liberation News.
YES! We have many more and better opportunities since January 2025! Our country is changing for the better.
The Tren de Aragua gangs will now not have support from the VZ authorities. Their drug trafficking operation cost the lives of many Americans. His release of Tren de Aragua gang members from VZ prisons terrorized American communities & killed my fellow Texans. Texas and the world are better because of his capture.

Morning all, 32 going to 35 and sunny.

I did find my old Arduino computer board and it works, so another hobby for a rainy day.

Dog had another seizure yesterday, wondering of the shots affected her. Scary.
Back to her old self right after, she is tough.

Tomorrow I get to meet the Dr specialist. Time for me to make sure I have my history and questions written down.

Be well,

Clouds did not help.

44F and a bit of rain at the moment. Heavy rain (for here) is forecast today. There was a minor power glitch/brownout last evening, so there's at least one tree branch I need of trimming. The good news is the driveway drain isn't getting clogged with debris after the big wind/rain storms we have had. Anything loose is already off of the trees.

I'm looking forward to seeing a long time friend today over dim sum, food that I haven't had for many moons. He is in town for a fun weekend with one of his kids. We are meeting up ninety minutes from here, but that is on a dry day. TBD today. With all the rain, the roads have the potential for chaos as too many drivers seem not to change their driving habits.

Yesterday, I geared up to look forward a stability control or ABS gremlin in one of our cars. In true Murphy's law fashion, the computer in the car denied it had ever had an issue, the sensor wiring looked visually ok, so who knows? I suspect that some combination of tire pressure variation and rain sent some reading into "abnormal warning" territory that cleared upon further driving. The brand has a well deserved reputation of being finicky around the tire pressure monitoring, stability control sensors, and the ABS systems. While I was there, I brought the tire pressures into agreement for all wheels and up to the exact working pressure. While I was at it, did the same for our "daily driver", not that there is much driving going on.

The local pair of coyotes decided to chew through the electric netting around the orchard yesterday morning in pursuit of a handful of fallen persimmons, leaving a 1'x2' hole. Grrr. Redoing the fencing is a next Spring item, but I will start thinking about what ought to be done, as the orchard needs a layered defense against ground squirrels and up, including deer and pigs. I will probably go for 2' of 1/4" metal mesh, topped with electric netting set at a height to give a great ground for any critter trying to crawl up the netting.

It is so slick that one of our cows slipped and went through the bottom strands of barbed wire fence. My wife found her in the road and walked her back up the driveway where we could put her back inside. I was slipping and sliding trying to do a temporary repair. It's like being on mushy snow over ice. You test the footing and it seems ok, and then poof, your foot slips out from under you.

All the best,

Peter

Started the Honda generator after relearning how the choke position works and let it run for 30 mins. Good to go if needed

Tried to start the 261C's but would not start. Emptied out the fuel on the new one in a glass jar to look at it. Does not look good. Put a little of the canned fuel in it but the plug is wet so will let it dry out for a day or so and try again. Need to check them out more often and leave them with a little of canned fuel or run them empty before storing. Wish I could get some AV gas.
The older one has a stuck compression release so need to check that out as well as the fuel

23°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 42° today. Going to warm into the upper 50s this week, and possibly some rain by Thursday and Friday.

The foster dog we've been keeping for the last two months went back to the shelter he was staying at on Thursday, as the lady who runs it has recovered from her surgery. The Wife fixed some of his "issues" that have prevented him from being adopted - mainly jumping on people - and now he's getting some interest from potential adopters. He'll be a good dog for someone. We took down the giant 4x4x4 kennel where he's been sleeping in the basement, and that went back into storage today. Wife is happy to have her quilting machine area back again.

How is the plywood market these days, Paul? Last I remember you were having some trouble finding any that wasn't ridiculously expensive. Hope that's changed for the better.

Good afternoon, gents ... and Happy (belated) New Year.

28F and cloudy @ 13:15, calling for a high of 29F for the day. Low this morning was 22.4F.

Stopped up at the shop on the way out to Menards last night and grabbed a couple of bi-metal hole saws - one for the 2" drain pipe and another for the water supply lines.

Got another 2 x 4 taken to the basement last evening and got the top plate for the remaining studs on the north wall cut to length and nailed on to the rest of them and then got that assembly stood up and moved over nearer to where it goes.

Some more clean up and organizing beyond that.

As part of the Menards order I picked up a 3 pak of carbide blades for the Dremel Multi-tool to replace the wood blade that I more or less destroyed trimming the board that the control box for the well pump was mounted on. Got one of those put on the Multi-tool.

Garage was down to around 35F so I fired up the torpedo heater and let it run for a bit, bringing the temp up to around 70F.

Grabbed the older B&D drill and a spare battery while I was out there and brought them inside to warm up.

Agenda for today:

Pushing Woman to get laundry all caught up so I can start the wall surgery in the laundry room and find out exactly how stuff was routed and whether there is any insulation in the walls. I suspect "no" on the insulation but am willing to be pleasantly surprised.

That will require removing the current stationary tub (cheaper Mustee floor standing model) which will get replaced with a better wall-mount model. That's likely to require addition bracing to be installed, to support it.

And disconnecting the Speed Queen washer and moving it out of the way so I have some room to work.

Also the water supply will have to be cut off as those lines are relocated. Currently that will require shutting off the supply to the kitchen sink and dishwasher ... at least until shutoff valves can be installed or the lines capped after the sink and dishwasher.

She isn't going to be happy about having no sink or dishwasher so I may wait until tomorrow when She's not here to do that.

Hope everyone is having a decent Sunday ... (y)
