Since a couple of you brought up war movies...two I especially like are "12 O'clock High" with Gregory Peck and "The Darkest Hour"...a pretty new flick with Gary Oldman in a remarkable performance as Winston Churchill.
Another one to catch is the new version of "Dunkirk"

Darkest Hour was excellent. Oldman is a fine actor.

Jessie Stone is a character created by the late great Robert B. Parker...(the same writer that created 'Spenser For Hire')...I've read all the books of both series...When it comes to the entertainment value Parker deserves all the credit... his dialog is often hilarious...

Tom Selleck is another one of those actors who almost always plays the same character...just different writing, wardrobes, time frames etc...

[Some dialog from Spenser sitting in a restaurant with Hawk...]

Spenser: "This cole slaw is horrible"

Hawk: " At least the portions are small"

Widmark has played some very good roles as well. Both good guy and bad guy.

In also liked the Jesse Stone series and Sunset Boulevard is also really good. Another good one on TV tonight the Cain Mutiny. I致e seen it so many times I知 not watching it again though.

At the risk of repeating myself; if you like Bogey, you might try "Treasure of the Sierra Madre". It's probably one of my most favorite movies of all time, I think maybe because I saw it when I was in grade school, at the movie theatre. "Batches? We ain't got no batches...we don't need no batches...we don't have to show you no stinking batches!" Tim Holt, being from Oklahoma may have been a factor, plus the performance by Walter Houston...and the fact that both Walter and John Houston were nominated for an Academy Award.
