Here's a few pictures of the tree line that needed to be moved, the destination where they were moved and the gang in action.

This picture now shows where the tree lane was. The area has already been raked and overseeded. If you look real close you can still see the 1st tree. It sits over a shallow high pressure gas transmission line and can't be spaded. So I'll wait until Christmas, take a chain saw to it and give it to my daughter to use for a Christmas tree.

There was 10 hours on the clock of the BobCat when we finished. It was a job well done and a nice piece of teamwork. Special thanks to Rswyan and his lovely wife Lynn for the helping hand. Lynn I really wasn't aiming for you with the BobCat.

The last picture is of Scott my son who resides in Indiana. Scott works in the landscaping industry and operates a gear drive, Kubota daily . Once he climbed up on the HST, Boomer there was no getting him off. Can you see the smile from ear to ear? Yep, he wanted to take the Boomer home with him.

Mornin Mike,
Nothing like teamwork :) That was quite a job, of course the right tools always help, thanks for sharing :)

It's been a loooong weekend, and we got a lot accomplished. I'm dead tired and headed for the rack but I'll post some pictures tomorrow of before and after shots, so you can appreciate all the work that you can accomplish with one of these little tree spades.

So, does the spade dig the receiving hole and also dig up the tree? How much per week to rent one?

Bob yes, you start by digging your 1st hole with the spade and setting it aside. From that point on you can dig a tree and place it in the pre-made hole. Then did another hole and take the plug to the last spot where you removed a tree, so on and so on. When you finish you then you go back and get the 1st dirt plug that you originally set aside and throw it in the last hole.

The BobCat and tree spade set us back $563. per 8 hours. I'm sure the rate is cheaper by the week or month, and they do make larger tree spades.

Considering the manual labor that we saved I couldn't imagine digging this many trees any other way, plus there's a lot less shock to the tree itself since the majority of the root ball stays intact.

Mike,

You're quite welcome - glad we were able to be of some use.

It was a job well done and a nice piece of teamwork.
It turn out pretty good didn't it ? :) It was definitely great to have the kids there to help - it's alot of work ..... even with the spade. Like you said, I can't imagine trying to do something of this magnitude without one.

Lynn I really wasn't aiming for you with the BobCat.
Lynn says that's fine - she knows you weren't. She does want to know when you are coming over ....... so she can chase you around with the Kubota.
