I have done a tire change or two for people myself & been stuck waiting for a hand too. The one I remember well was leaving work (small welding shop) AND heard a POP (tire blow) from car coming out of town. The guy pulled into the drive as I was standing between the car and shop looking in his direction. He stopped at end of drive and I walked out to see how bad it might be. it had blown sidewall out 3" rip so tire was junk & older guy was dressed for business meeting attire. I told him to pull up by the shop onto the concrete and I'd swap it out for him. took all of 10 min as Jack and Air Impact was there with my tools just inside so no big deal. he offered me some $ but I didn't want any he insisted and I accepted 20 to buy some pop for the shop...

He was happy and off on his way as was I...

"Pay It Forward" was the best movie I watched in 2000.

One time on the way home from work I was stopped, in traffic, on a bridge behind a car with flashers on. The poor lady had a flat tire. I changed her tire in my suit and tie!

A few days later a wife of a buddy said she saw me do that and it made her proud to know me. That right there was worth it.

Back in 1985 me and a buddy were hauling azz from Toronto to Boston running on NY17, we were yacking on the CB when buddy says there is a car on the shoulder with a flat tire. Him and me opted to stop and the two older gentlemen (I mean really old) that were with the car had an oh crap moment when the two tractor trailers stopped one in front of them and me behind them. I got to the car first and asked them if they had a jack and spare, which they did. Buddy and I changed the flat and the two guys wanted to shove 50 bucks down our throats. I declined and told them that I couldn't live with myself if they had a heart attack and died changing the tire themselves. Have a good day, we are out of here.

Anytime someone offers you money for helping them out you should always take it because it makes them feel good to have given you something for your efforts and you should never deny them that opportunity to feel good about themselves. :D

I don't know about that Mace. If you have "it"... "it" is easy to offer...many don't, but offer anyway. My standard reply to that offer has always been...."someday in the future you might be in a position to help someone else....if you do that, it's all the payment I ever want".

Being a decent Human Being shouldn't require extra effort, but sadly, too little effort is usually the case. When I come across situations like those above, I always consider what Jesus said about " Angles in disguise". You never know...
