#14 I used to do it that way also, until I keep getting DOT,d You actually should of had 2 on that clevis, and a separate one on the bucket. I have a friend that is a local DOT cop and if the chain is not series 7 he take the size and looks it up and goes for half of what the book says. By the way the state wants at least 1 dot cop with inspection license, and dot certification in each jurisdiction, I don't see it actually happening. Also you should of had 2 on the bucket. Heck I cant afford all the chains and binders needed. Another thing if money is made with the truck, trailer, load beware there pushing for a DOT number. Down at the auction today they were checking the Mennonites that haul the Amish around for a small sum of money, you need a DOT number. This country is in sorry shape.

Things are much different in the Tennessee countryside. I don't even need to register my trailer. Car/truck registration is $28, no matter what you drive and I don't have to get smog test. Towing laws are few and far between.

Yes my trailer is 60.00 for a five year tag and 35.00 inspection yearly. If it was under 3000 without brakes I would not need inspection. 93.00 for a truck with a 7000 LB license that can only haul 5815 and 35.00 a year for inspection, no smog test as of yet. MONEY I have a friend in Clinton Tenn and he said the same thing as long as the trailer is not commercial. You can get a lifetime tag if the trailer is over 10,000 lbs that's 300.00 i think. Tractor trailers is around 15.00 a year (I think) and the big money is on the tractor that is quite a bit, i know I had a t-tag Ford 350 Dulley with 14,000 gross and it was very close to 400.00 a year. got rid of that thing, in order to pull a large trailer I would of had to get combo tags and that was close to 1000.00 a year, Sold it.

Wrong! I've been all morning on this. Not any of the large, nationwide equipment places will rent for use across state lines. Even with trailers tagged out of state to begin with. My choices at present are: U-haul auto transporter and lie that it's not for a tractor & hope no wrecks, or buy a new or used trailer or pay through the nose for a rented truck. I'm currently sifting through CL ads looking at a used trailer to use, then sell it off. I really have no use for a large trailer. The measurements for those interested: Kioti DK35SE- 16'8" from back of a land pride box blade to front of the bucket. Tire tracks are: front-66" outside to 42" inside/ rear-69" outside to 34" inside. I do find many 16' trailers are too light as the weight of the trailer, tractor, FEL & blade come to over 7,000#'s on a trailer with dual axle 3,500's axles even though it will fit on them.

Don't know what to tell you, I'm surprised B&B or Cannon equipment rental would of rented a trailer that would have worked for you. Here one rents for 75 a day and you can take it where ever you want as long as it's back in 24 hrs.

As of Jan 1 2016. and according to my state rep this came from the federal level.
You can not pull a trailer that has a gross wt larger than you pickup gross GVW.

Again, you've named dropped your neighbor the DOT guy, your friend the district justice and your state rep. But until you come up with this federal state law, you're just blowing smoke. Laws are written down, if you're going to quote them, put in a little effort to see if they're real, or if you're just chicken little spouting fake news.

. and 2942 states that The towing pickup cannot pull a 7000pound trailer if the the gross is only 5815 that why I had to get a 5000 trailer.

From what I can tell, 2942 is Pennsylvania Department of Game. The limits on what a truck can tow should be here:

I don't quite understand post 17
I think you are repeating things that are either not correct, or you are misunderstanding what you are told.

You cannot buy a KS tractor and haul it back to KY in 24 hrs for one thing. I called EVERY place anywhere near me in Lexington,KY, several large national equipment rentals and they do not allow across sate lines! This a.m. I talked to an equipment/trailer seller/rental place in OH near Cincinnati and they do but only certain 5th wheel trailers, not a ball hitch type say 10K GW or so. I was surprised but when calling my Kioti dealer he was well aware they don't allow interstate rentals. Intrastate only is the name of the game except the U-haul type of places.
Either way, I bought a trailer just now, PU tonite. I'll re-sell it after my older tractors sold so I can deliver for a deal on that one.

kantuckid, Post 26. You are right they don't usually bother a guy hauling a small tractor or something that appears to be homeowner related, but when hauling something that looks to big for a home owner or looks like a business they tend to check you. The last time when stopped he kept insisting that is was making money with the tractor it took 10 t0 15 min of convincing that all I got was the fuel, when they had enough.
Rock knocker. I got that number from the e mail earlier and looked it in that section. Again that why the neighbor told me to insist to see the statue they are citing you under because its in the interpretation or may not be applicable. I just telling you how it is here I was shop Foreman and dealt with all the stupid stuff they came up with the company just paid the fine and let it go at that. in order to fight it they may have to drive to where the alleged violation occurred and usually lose unless you want to go higher in the courts.
Sorry I don't want to be argumentative. I am now retired and still have a lot of guys that i run with that still work with. At our tractor pulls I may be with as much as 75 truck drivers. I will pull that other web site up and research it.

Rock knocker. Go to ratcheting tie downs broke in transit, go to page 13 post 125 and then go to page 14 and look at post 134. I did look up the new link you sent me and all they are stating is it must be securely fastened. with a chain on a hyd operated bucket. The link was 700 plus pages long and I don't want to print it out so I am going to try and get a copy, (Good Luck there) There is a lot of vague terms that are inconsistent with what is happening around here. My friend just left here and he told me you cant fabricate a tow hitch any because it must be stamper with the max capacity on the hitch and there checking now to make sure it not rated lower than what you are towing. I am sure we could go on with this and I am enjoying the conversation with you guys. Kenny

I'm questioning you're statement about the federal law limiting the GVW of a trailer in relation to the towing vehicles GVW
