Neither of my 200K Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4's ever had a tranny fluid change and never caused me any problems either...My bad, I know..

Did change the traansfer case and tranny fluid in the wife's Hummer at 45K...All synthetic and priced accordingly.

Tim,you sound like me,you try to get every mile you can,I dont know if that is good or bad. Seems like after 50000 the value starts falling pretty quick. Some of the older guys here at home in the car business say trade at 50 or wait till 100. Dont really know whats best, vehicle of any kind is a money pit any way. LUTT

I sold the 91 outright..Got $4500 for it with 200K...Traded the '97 w/200k on my '04 and got $6500...When I traded the '04 at 100K got almost $13k and sold off of their lot for 15.5K in less than a week...Don't know the exact equation but seems it works either way. No car payments for a really long time if you can hold on to them that's for sure.

I had a 93 350 Silverado extended cab manual, set up for towing with a crawling gear/oil cooler. Great truck. Had it for 10 years. Now I have a 2003 Silverado 2500HD 6 liter 4x4. Had this one 91/2 years. Another great truck. I wanted manual but they only had auto. The ride is stiff and I love it that way.

I have had fairly good luck with all of my trucks over the years, but hands down the best value truck I have ever had was my old 75 dodge d300 ex canadian military ambulance. I bought it complete with a 7.5' meyer power angle plow for $250 . I had to put a clutch in it when i first bought it and a few cheap parts over the next 9 years maybe $800 total.
I plowed my 1200' driveway for 9 years and it never let me down , then I sold it for $350. ... Craig

So far reliability wise the 08 f-150 has been good. I had to put front brakes on it at 99,400 miles. Tried to get 100k out of them but oh well. As far as joy of owning my 01 f-250 diesel is at the top of the list. It is a brute for what it is. My 91 3/4 ton GM with a 454 is a close second. Lots of parts but it was fun to own. CJ

A good friend of mine once said auto transmissions are full of ATF and magic, once you open that oil pan the oil and magic come out. You can refill the oil but the magic is loss.[/QUOTE]

That would be the Pixie dust!! Very very few rebuilders/builders know how to put it back in! CJ

I had good luck with the Dodge 1tons with 5.9 Cummins in Hot shot business from 97 models up. The best one by far is my 2004. just rolled 350k on it. I quit hotshotting a few yrs ago and kept this one. It started pulling a 40' G/N from day 1 and first yr I had 100k on it. Anyways other than regular maintence I did have to have the tranny rebuilt (6 spd) at bout 275k miles. To this day no oil leaks any where.Best gasser was a 96 Toyota Tacoma 2wd 5spd, 2.4 liter. Ran the wheels off it and nothing out of the ordinary repair wise, . The suspension was weak, needed springs replaced and it needed paint, more $ than I wanted to put in it had 302k on it when I traded it in.

I've found the Dodge trucks handled being overloaded the best. Either it's underated from the factory or just that good.

You mean like this? Haha

My old Dodge looks like crap, but it sure does run good. It's well over 300k and the 12v is turned up a bit. Couldn't give me another diesel than a mechanically injected Cummins.

My 04 1500 Crew Cab Sierraxhas been solid reliable! 290,000km/189,000 miles only normal maintenance items needed. Will be replacing it with a new identical Sierra in 2015 or 2016.

My first duramax was my best truck. It went almost 300,000 miles. Plowed snow, pulled trailers, etc. Never needed anything rebuilt other than small stuff. Yes, injectors were replaced under warranty, but no problems afterwards. The second duramax is acyually better, but will have to go a lot more miles without problems to equal my first one.
Never seen such a smooth, quiet, poweful engine.

What year is the second duramax?

That red Chevy van reminds me of a 1985 Chevy van I had years ago. It was a "heavy half" and former LP gas company work truck. Great engine, smooth suspension and never a lick of problems. With that heavy rear suspension, we used to load the **** out of it too!
It ended by given up in the battle against rust like most New England trucks.

As for the Dodge truck transmissions, I find that they don't like fluid changes. Believe it or not but out of all the Dodge trucks I've owned and/or serviced, those WITHOUT fluid/filter changes lasted the longest. Just keep an eye on the fluid level. Even our old 2004 Chrysler Pacifica stated in the owners manual that transmission/transaxle fluid did not need service under normal use. Only extreme use (limo or taxi) required 100k fluid change intervals.
I almost wonder if the problem is the "flush chemicals" that get used by most shops that do the fluid changes. I wonder how much difference there would be in a neglected transmission between just changing old fluid for new vs a power flush with a cleaning cycle in the middle...
